## Description

The Sea Harrier is a jet fighter, reconnaissance and attack aircraft. It can take off and land vertically. This means it does not need a runway. It was developed from the Harrier Jump Jet. It first flew in 1978 and entered service in 1979. The Sea Harrier was used in the Falklands War, where it shot down 20 enemy aircraft. It was also used in the Gulf War and the Balkans. The Sea Harrier was retired from service in 2006.
