Description

The Piper Arrow III is a four-seat, low-wing airplane with one engine. It has retractable tricycle landing gear, which means it has a steerable nose wheel and two main wheels. Most of the plane is made of aluminum alloy. It is certified in the normal category, which means aerobatic maneuvers, including spins, are not allowed. The plane is approved for day and night VFR/IFR operations if it has the right equipment. The aircraft is powered by a Lycoming IO-360-C1C6 engine that produces 200 horsepower. It is a four-cylinder, direct drive, horizontally opposed, fuel injected engine. It has accessories like a starter, alternator, shielded ignition, vacuum pump drive, fuel pump, propeller governor, and an air filter. The plane has two 38.5 gallon fuel tanks, one in each wing. Each tank has a filler neck indicator to help determine how much fuel is left when the tanks are not full. The tanks are attached to the wing with screws and are part of the wing structure. An electric fuel pump serves as a backup. Fuel quantity and pressure are shown on gauges on the instrument panel. The plane's electrical power comes from a 14-volt, 60-amp alternator, protected by a control unit with a voltage regulator and an overvoltage relay. A 12-volt battery provides secondary power.
