Description
Additional Remarks The Piper PA38 Tomahawk is a single-engine, low-wing cantilever monoplane featuring a distinctive T-tail and an enclosed cabin designed for two occupants. It is equipped with fixed tricycle landing gear and is powered by a Lycoming O-235 four-cylinder piston engine, paired with a twin-bladed tractor propeller. Cabin access is provided through two front-hinged doors. Aircraft G-BOLE boasts acceptable engine hours and calendar life, making it suitable for a flight training organisation, hour building, or private use. Piper developed the Tomahawk to meet the demand for an affordable, two-seat trainer. Before designing the aircraft, Piper conducted extensive surveys of flight instructors to gather their input. Instructors wanted a more spin-capable aircraft for training, as other trainers like the Cessna 150 and 152 were designed to naturally recover from spins. To address this need, the Tomahawk’s NASA GA(W)-1 Whitcomb airfoil design requires specific pilot input for spin recovery, thereby enhancing pilot proficiency.
