Description

This is a rare Yak-1 fighter plane from World War II. It was made in 1941 at the Saratov plant as the 13th plane in the 42nd series. The plane was found in Polonets Lake in Russia in 1990 after it crashed there in 1942. The pilot is believed to have survived. The plane was part of the 423 Fighter Regiment and later the 485 Fighter Regiment. Flying Officer Michael Kudrjashov flew this plane and had three victories. The plane was bought by HAC in 1991, and restoration began soon after. A new wing was made, and the airframe is being restored to its original condition, including the guns. The engine was in good condition, and an extra engine was found in Paris. About £1,500,000 has been spent on the restoration so far. The Kilmov V12 engine has been fixed up and tested.
