Overview

The Pray Aviation Flight Training Manual (FTM) is designed to provide pilots with standardized procedures for safe and efficient training operations in the Beechcraft 95 Travel Air. This manual serves as a supplement to the Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH) and is intended for use alongside FAA-8083-3 (Flight Training Handbook) and the Practical Test Standards (PTS) for Instrument and Commercial Pilot AMEL. It emphasizes the importance of pilot judgment and adaptability in various operational conditions. The manual includes detailed checklists and procedures for normal and abnormal operations, as well as VFR airwork, ensuring that pilots are well-prepared for training and flight operations.

  • Vso (stall landing configuration) is 70 MPH.
  • Vr (rotation speed) is 90 MPH.
  • Vy (best rate of climb) is 100 MPH.
  • Vne (never exceed speed) is 240 MPH.
  • Preflight checklists must include verifying documents and fuel selectors.

Airplane General

This section provides essential airspeed information for the Beechcraft 95 Travel Air, including critical speeds such as Vso (70 MPH), Vs (80 MPH), Vmca (84 MPH), Vr (90 MPH), Vx (90 MPH), Vy (100 MPH), and Vne (240 MPH). These speeds are crucial for safe flight operations and performance calculations.

Normal Procedures (Expanded)

The Normal Procedures section includes detailed checklists for preflight inspections, engine starts, and takeoff procedures. For example, the preflight checklist emphasizes the importance of checking documents, fuel selectors, and control locks, ensuring that all systems are operational before flight.

Abnormal Procedures (Expanded)

This section outlines procedures for handling abnormal situations, including engine failures and emergency landings. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining control and following established protocols to ensure safety during unexpected events.

VFR Airwork

The VFR Airwork section covers essential maneuvers and checklists that pilots must perform during training flights. This includes pre-maneuver checklists, slow flight, power-off stalls, and VMC demonstrations, ensuring that pilots are proficient in handling the aircraft under various conditions.

Safety notes

  • Always maintain a lookout for traffic during maneuvers.
  • Ensure that maneuvers are performed at an altitude that allows recovery above 3000 feet AGL.
  • Do not rely solely on gear indication lights; ensure physical limits are reached during manual gear extension.

Pray Aviation Beech 95 Travelair FTM 7/26/2016 1 Introduction This Pray Aviation Flight Training Manual (FTM) has been designed to provide the pilot with standardization procedures for safe and efficient training operations in the Beech Travelair. It is your responsibility to have a complete and thorough knowledge of these procedures and techniques. Note that this manual does not include all the information found in the Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH). It is primarily a procedures guide and is to be used as a supplement to the POH, and in conjunction with FAA-8083-3 (Flight Training Handbook), and the Practical Test Standards (PTS) for the Instrument and Commercial Pilot AMEL. The procedures in this manual are not intended to limit the pilot’s judgement. The pilot can alter procedures to meet existing conditions. No procedure, regardless of how well written, can account for every possible variable; a procedure cannot replace common sense. Table of Contents Chapter 1: Airplane General I.
