BEECHCRAFT SIERRA
Beechcraft C24R Sierra · Pilot's Operating Handbook
Overview
This document serves as the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) for the Beechcraft C24R Sierra. It provides essential information for pilots operating this aircraft, including preflight checks, operational procedures, emergency procedures, and performance data. The handbook is designed to ensure safe and efficient operation of the aircraft, detailing critical speeds, weight limits, and operational guidelines. It is intended for both new and experienced pilots to familiarize themselves with the specific requirements and capabilities of the Beechcraft Sierra.
- Rotate at 66 KIAS during takeoff.
- Climb at 71 KIAS (VX) or 85 KIAS (VY).
- Best glide speed is 91 KIAS.
- Engine oil must be at least 6 quarts before flight.
- Mixture should be rich for takeoff and landing.

Preflight Inspection
The preflight inspection includes checking the Form 781, removing the control lock, ensuring the landing gear handle is down, and verifying that the throttle is at idle. Pilots should check fuel quantity, warning lights, and exterior lights, and ensure the battery switch is on before proceeding with further checks.
Starting Procedures
The document outlines specific procedures for cold starts, hot starts, and flooded starts. For a cold start, the mixture should be set to rich, the throttle opened half an inch, and the propeller area cleared before starting the engine. Hot starts require the mixture to be cut off initially, with the throttle opened two inches.
Takeoff Procedures
During takeoff, the throttle should be fully open, and the aircraft should rotate at 66 KIAS. The climb should be initiated at 71 KIAS for VX and 85 KIAS for VY. After takeoff, the landing gear should be retracted when no longer using the runway.
Emergency Procedures
The handbook details emergency procedures for engine fires on the ground and in flight, including shutting off the fuel selector valve and mixture. It also provides guidance for handling engine failures, including establishing a max glide speed of 91 KIAS.
Performance Data
Key performance speeds include VS0 at 55 KIAS, VX at 71 KIAS, and VY at 85 KIAS. The best glide speed is 91 KIAS, and the maximum landing gear extension speed is 135 KIAS.
Safety notes
- Improper leaning procedures will greatly reduce endurance.
- Always ensure the propeller area is clear before starting the engine.
