Installation Instructions

The installation process begins with aiming the lights against a target board to mark beam locations. The manual categorizes aircraft models into groups (A1, A2, A3, B, C) based on their lighting configurations. Specific steps for removing access panels, disconnecting existing wiring, and installing new LED assemblies are outlined. The instructions emphasize retaining all hardware for reinstallation and provide guidance for connecting power and ground leads to the new lighting system.

Electrical Load Analysis

Each Sunbeam LED draws 1.4 amperes at 28 VDC. The dual installations replace existing halogen lamps with LED assemblies, drawing a total of 2.8 amperes per assembly. The single installations draw a maximum of 1.4 amperes. This section is crucial for ensuring that the aircraft's electrical system can handle the new lighting load.

Weight and Balance Information

The installation of the -1 and -3 Dual Light Kits results in a weight and balance change of +1.5 pounds at Datum STA 301.5. The -5 Single Light Kit results in a +1.0 pound change at the same datum. This information is essential for maintaining the aircraft's performance and safety.

Safety and Compliance

The manual includes a warning regarding the potential presence of chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive harm, emphasizing the importance of safety during installation. It also notes that the installation must comply with FAA regulations, including the completion of FAA Form 337.

Safety notes

  • Warning regarding chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations during installation.

For dual wing light assemblies, insert the outboard light lengthwise through the inboard side of the leading-edge opening, then rotate outboard and slide the inboard light in. For both single and dual light installations, use the original retained mounting hardware to secure the single or dual light assemblies to the wing structure. 8. For the -1 Dual Light Instl Kit: Identify power and ground leads for taxi and landing lights. Remove connectors. Attach existing landing and taxi light power and ground wires to the red and black wires of the Sunbeam LEDs using M81824/1-2 splices and cover with M23053/5-106-0 shrink tubing. Ensure that landing light power is connected to the outboard light and taxi light power to the inboard light. Cap and stow the yellow, blue and green wires. See Figure 1 wiring diagram. For the -3 Dual Light Instl Kit: Identify power and ground leads for taxi lights. Remove connectors. Attach existing taxi light power and ground wires to the red and black wires of the two Sunbeam LEDs using M81824/1-3 splices and cover with M23053/5-106-0 shrink tubing. Cap and stow the yellow, blue and green wires. See Figure 2 wiring diagram. For the -5 Single Light Instl Kit, identify power and ground leads for the recognition light. Remove the connector. Attach existing recognition light power and ground wires to the red and black wires of the Sunbeam LED using M81824/1-2 splices and cover with M23053/5-106-0 shrink tubing. Cap and stow the yellow, blue and green wires. See Figure 3 wiring diagram. 9. Secure all wire harnesses per AC43.13-1B. 10. Reinstall all access and exhaust panels from Step #3 using existing hardware. 11. Perform a functional test of the aircraft lighting system(s). Verify that the control and function of all lights is the same as the pre-modification operation. 12. Verify light aiming using markings from Step #1. Adjust as required. 13. Complete FAA Form 337.
