Velocity Speeds
The document outlines critical airspeeds for the Diamond DA20-C1, including: Vr (Rotation Speed) at 44 KIAS, Vx (Best Angle of Climb) at 58 KIAS, Vy (Best Rate of Climb) at 75 KIAS, and Va (Maneuvering Speed) at 106 KIAS.
Preflight Inspection
The preflight inspection checklist includes checking the airworthiness certificate, fuel quantity, control surfaces, and various aircraft components. Specific items include ensuring the throttle is at idle, the mixture is at idle cut-off, and the master switch is on. The checklist emphasizes visual inspections of the aircraft's exterior and critical systems.
Engine Start Procedure
The engine start procedure requires the mixture to be set to full rich, the throttle to idle, and the fuel pump to be on. After ensuring the propeller area is clear, the ignition is engaged to start the engine. The oil pressure must be checked within 30 seconds of starting.
Before Takeoff Check
Before takeoff, pilots must ensure the flaps are set to the takeoff position, the mixture is at best power, and the heading indicator is aligned. The checklist also includes verifying the landing light and strobe are on, and that radios and navigation equipment are set.
Emergency Procedures
The document details emergency procedures for engine failure during takeoff, immediately after takeoff, and in-flight. Key actions include reducing throttle, applying brakes, and setting the mixture to idle cut-off. Specific airspeeds for emergency landings are also provided.
Safety notes
- Ensure all preflight checks are completed before flight.
- Monitor engine instruments closely during start and taxi.

We will depart on runway 23, which is 3910 ft long, our ground roll will be 1270 ft long, I will abort the takeoff if not airborne by the highspeed taxiway. The wind is from 180 at 8 knots, which is a 6 knots crosswind component; I’ll hold full left aileron at the start of the roll. Flaps will be at takeoff, mixture leaned for density altitude, full power, rotate at 44 knots and climbout at Vy 75 knots. After takeoff, we’ll make 10 degree left turn for noise abatement, then a further left turn to heading 210 and up to 4500. If we have any problems before rotation or with adequate runway remaining after liftoff, we will abort. Standard emergency procedures will be used in the event of engine failure without adequate runway remaining. Best glide is 73 KIAS. We won’t even think about returning to this airport unless we are at 1,000 AGL. Any questions or comments?
