Operating Limitations
The DA40 TDI must not be operated when the temperature is below -20°C or above 54°C. If the aircraft is cold-soaked below -20°C, an external pre-heater is mandatory before operation.
Mass and Balance
The maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) for the DA40 TDI is 1150 kg, with an empty weight typically around 830 kg. The maximum baggage capacity is 45 kg, with a maximum of 18 kg in the aft compartment.
Characteristic Speeds
Key speeds for the DA40 TDI include: V A (108 KIAS at 980-1150 kg), V NE (178 KIAS), V NO (129 KIAS), V S1 (52 KIAS), and V SO (49 KIAS). Stalling speeds vary with weight, with V S1 at 42 KIAS for 980 kg and 47 KIAS for 1150 kg.
Engine Specifications
The DA40 TDI is powered by a Thielert Aircraft Engine TAE125-02-99, a four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with a maximum power output of 99 kW (135 HP) at 2300 RPM. It features common-rail direct injection and a turbocharger.
Fuel System

The electrical system operates at 12-14V with a 90A generator and includes multiple buses for power distribution. The main battery is 12V 45Ah, and an ECU backup battery is also included.
