Pages: 1 Status: Mandatory Compliance Background: The Lancair IV, ES and PropJet have access panels in the aft section of the fuselage to provide access to antennas and other equipment. The access panels are an essential part of the structural integrity of the fuselage. It is critical that the access panel is installed per the assembly manual instructions using screws. Latches, hinges or other forms of fasteners may not be acceptable as they will not transfer the loads through the access panel. Action: Verify that your access panel is installed per assembly manual instructions. The original set of instructions suggested using -6 screws. While this serves adequately for structural purposes we are revising the plans to show -8 screws. The -8 screws are less apt to strip; however, it is not necessary to switch to the larger -8 screws. Should you have installed any other form of latching mechanism follow the instructions. Securing the Access Panel Fig. 1
