Aircraft Specifications

The Mooney M20D Master features a maximum takeoff weight of 2,800 lbs and a useful load of approximately 1,200 lbs. The aircraft is powered by a 180 HP engine, allowing for a cruise speed of around 140 knots at a typical altitude of 8,000 feet.

Operating Procedures

Pilots must adhere to specific operating procedures outlined in this manual, including preflight inspections, engine start procedures, and takeoff and landing protocols. The manual emphasizes the importance of following the checklist to ensure all systems are functioning correctly before flight.

Performance Data

The performance section includes critical data such as takeoff distance, landing distance, and climb rates. For instance, the takeoff distance over a 50-foot obstacle is approximately 1,600 feet under standard conditions.

Emergency Procedures

In case of an engine failure, pilots should follow the emergency landing procedures detailed in this section. It includes steps for maintaining control of the aircraft and selecting suitable landing sites.

Weight and Balance

Proper weight and balance calculations are essential for safe flight operations. The manual provides charts and formulas to assist pilots in determining the aircraft's center of gravity based on passenger and cargo loading.

Safety notes

  • Always perform a thorough preflight inspection before each flight.
  • Ensure weight and balance is within limits to avoid control issues during flight.

(1) Turn off the "starter disconnect switch". This switch is located behind the instrument panel on the upper center part of the firewall. It disconnects the starter so that when the magneto switch is turned to the start position, only the starter vibrator operates. (2) As the engine is "propped", hold the magneto switch in the "start" position. This operates the starter vibrator and furn- ishes retarded spark to the engine. (3) When the engine starts, release the switch to the "both" position and place the "starter disconnect switch to the "on" position. Mooney Aircraft, Inc.
