PIPER ARROW IV — Systems Description

This document provides an overview of the Piper Arrow IV's landing gear system, detailing its operation, indicators, and emergency procedures. It covers the normal retraction and extension processes, as well as the automatic gear extension system and manual emergency extension procedures.

• Landing gear is hydraulically operated with no gear up-locks.
• Emergency extension allows gear to freefall when hydraulic pressure is dumped.
• Normal retraction should not exceed 109 KIAS; extension should not exceed 130 KIAS.
• Automatic gear extension activates below approximately 87 KIAS unless overridden.
• Manual emergency extension is possible by pushing a red lever down.
• The gear warning system activates under specific low power conditions.
• Hydraulic pressure loss may trigger the hydraulic pump to activate.
