If necessary, the appropriate Piper Service Manual should be used in conjunction with this manual. The best time to paint the Wing Tips is after the holes are drilled and before final installation. Fiberglass surfaces should be scuffed slightly with a Scotch-Brite or fine sand paper, cleaned thoroughly, and painted. Most approved nav or strobe light assemblies fit into the leading edge of the Wing Tip. Wing Tips allow room for up to two nav lights and a strobe light. Section 1.0 Removal of old Wing Tips and lights. Remove existing Wing Tips. Retain existing Tinnerman U-type nut plates for re-installation of new tips. Disconnect any wires leading to the existing nav/strobe lights. Save existing nav/strobe assemblies for installation in new Wing Tips if desired. Section 1.1 Locating and drilling holes on left Wing Tip. Using a straight edge, mark all hole locations from center of hole 2” inboard onto wing. Referencing Detail #1 place left Wing Tip P/N 2500-3 in its proper location. With Wing Tip held firmly in place, transfer marks back onto Wing Tip and mark hole locations. For optimum fit, a hole finder should not be used for this procedure. Drill holes in Wing Tip to a #40 hole size and confirm proper location of all holes. Enlarge holes to a #15 hole size and countersink to fit the countersunk washer P/N DW06SS. Section 1.2 Mounting Navigation and/or Strobe lights. Referencing Detail #1, locate and mount nav/strobe assemblies. Installation may consist of; a) Navigation Light, b) combination Navigation and Strobe light, or c) two Navigation lights and a Strobe light. Confirm at least 1/16” clearance between light(s) and lens. Make sure all wiring conforms to AC43.13-1A Chapter 11 and light manufacturers installation instructions. Re-attach wires and check light(s) for proper operation. Section 1.3 Final installation of Wing Tip. Install Wing Tip using existing U-type Tinnerman nut plates, (19) P/N DW06SS washers, and (19) 6R X ½ FAS screws. Check clearance from aileron travel and operation of light(s). Section 1.4 Right side installation. Repeat steps 1.0 thru 1.3 on right side of aircraft. Section 1.5 Paperwork. Perform paperwork (337 and logbook entry). Place KNOTS 2U Maintenance Manual and Supplemental Type Certificate with logbooks.
