Engine Fire During Start
In the event of an engine fire during start, the checklist instructs the pilot to crank the engine while setting the mixture to idle cut-off. The throttle should be fully open, and the electric fuel pump turned off. The fuel selector must also be set to off, and the magnetos turned off to prevent further fuel flow.
Engine Power Loss: Takeoff
If there is a loss of engine power during takeoff, the pilot should secure seatbelts, pitch for a safe airspeed, and ensure the door is secured open. The electric fuel pump should be turned on, the fuel selector switched to another tank, and the magnetos cycled. The mixture should be set to full rich, and carburetor heat applied.
Electrical Failure
In case of an electrical failure indicated by the ALT light, the pilot should check the ammeter for alternator status. If the ammeter shows zero, the alternator switch should be turned off, and electrical loads minimized. The alternator circuit breaker should be checked and reset, and if power is not restored, the alternator switch should be turned off.
Loss Of Oil Pressure
If there is a loss of oil pressure, the checklist advises the pilot to land as soon as possible to prevent engine damage.
Carburetor Icing
In conditions of carburetor icing, the checklist recommends turning on the carburetor heat and adjusting the mixture for maximum engine smoothness.
Safety notes
- Always secure seatbelts during emergencies.
- Declare an emergency on 121.5 and squawk 7700 if necessary.

If ammeter shows zero: Alternator Switch – OFF Airspeed – slow to 87 KTS Cabin Vents – closed 3.) Reduce electrical loads to a minimum Window – open Alternator circuit breaker – check and reset If upper latch open – latch Alternator Switch – ON If lower latch open – pull on arm rest and latch If both latches open – latch lower, then upper 4.)
