Engine Failure During Takeoff
In the event of an engine failure during takeoff, maintain control of the aircraft and pitch for the best glide speed of 73 KIAS. The fuel selector should be turned off, and the mixture set to full lean or idle cutoff. Other actions include turning off the master switch, lowering the flaps, and unlatching the cockpit door.
Power Loss in Flight
If experiencing power loss in flight, pitch for the best glide speed of 73 KIAS and select a landing site while noting wind direction and velocity. Ensure the fuel is from the proper tank, check the mags, and set the mixture to full rich. The throttle should be pumped, and carb heat turned on.
Electrical Fire in Flight
In case of an electrical fire, all electrical devices should be turned off, and the master switch should be turned off as well. Cabin air and heat should be turned off, and if the fire is out and critical, the master can be turned back on. Vents should be opened, and essential electrical devices can be turned on one at a time.
Engine Fire in Flight
For an engine fire in flight, check the source of the fire, turn off the fuel selector, and close the throttle. The mixture should be set to full lean or idle cutoff, and the fuel pump turned off. The master switch should also be turned off, and cabin air and heat should be turned off.
Spin Recovery
To recover from a spin, throttle should be set to idle, ailerons kept neutral, and the rudder should be applied in the opposite direction of the spin. Once the spin stops, the rudder should be neutralized, and the pitch should be lowered to break the stall.
