Engine Fire During Start

In the event of an engine fire during start, the following steps should be taken: crank the engine using the starter, set the mixture to idle cut-off, open the throttle fully, turn off the fuel pump, and ensure the fuel selector is off. The door should be secured open to facilitate evacuation if necessary.

Engine Power Loss: Takeoff

If there is a loss of engine power during takeoff, pilots should pitch for a safe airspeed of 63 KTS with flaps set to 40 degrees. The fuel selector should be switched to another tank, and magnetos should be cycled to attempt a restart. If the engine does not restart, follow the power-off landing procedure.

Engine Power Loss: In-Flight

In the case of engine power loss in-flight, establish an emergency descent with a best glide airspeed of 73 KTS. Check the fuel selector, cycle the magnetos, and prepare for a possible power-off landing if the engine does not restart.

Electrical Failure

For electrical failures, if the ALT light is illuminated, check the ammeter. If it shows zero, turn off the ALT switch and reduce electrical loads. If power is not restored, land as soon as possible.

Carburetor Icing

In conditions of carburetor icing, turn on the carburetor heat to prevent engine roughness. Adjust the mixture for maximum engine smoothness.
