Preflight Inspection
The preflight inspection section outlines a series of checks to ensure the aircraft is ready for flight. This includes checking fuel quantity indicators, inspecting for external damage, ensuring control surfaces are free of obstructions, and verifying the condition of tires and brakes. Specific checks include confirming the oil level (maximum of 8 quarts) and ensuring the landing gear shock struts are properly inflated.
Starting Engine
This section details the steps required to start the engine safely. Key actions include turning the master switch ON, setting the mixture to FULL RICH, and ensuring the fuel pump is ON. The checklist emphasizes checking fuel pressure and oil pressure after starting the engine, as well as confirming that the propeller area is clear before engaging the ignition.
Before Takeoff
Before takeoff, pilots must ensure that the trim is set to neutral, the fuel pump is ON, and the fuel selector is set to the fullest tank. The checklist also includes verifying that the doors are closed and latched, and that the landing light is ON. It specifies the rotation speed (65 MPH) and climb speed (85 MPH) for normal takeoff.
After Takeoff Checklist
Immediately after takeoff, pilots should retract flaps, turn off landing lights, and switch off the fuel pump. This section emphasizes the importance of monitoring engine instruments and maintaining proper climb speeds.
Emergency Procedures
The checklist includes critical emergency procedures for engine failure during takeoff, after rotation, and in flight. It provides specific airspeeds to maintain (80 MPH) and outlines steps to switch fuel tanks and activate the fuel pump in case of engine failure.
Safety notes
- Ensure all primary flight controls operate properly before entering the aircraft.
- Check that required papers are in order and in the aircraft before flight.
