Piper PA-28 Cherokee 180 · Checklist
Overview
This document is a checklist specifically for the Piper PA-28-180 aircraft, designated C-GWDE. It serves as a reference for pilots to ensure that all necessary pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight procedures are followed. The checklist includes critical operating notes, speeds, specifications, limits, and various operational procedures to enhance safety and efficiency during flight operations. It is essential for pilots to familiarize themselves with this checklist to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain the aircraft in optimal flying condition.
- Vso (stalling speed) is 57 MPH; Vr (rotation speed) is 50-60 MPH.
- Maximum gross weight is 2400 lbs; empty weight is 1705 lbs.
- Fuel capacity is 50 USG with a consumption rate of 10 GPH at 75% power.
- Preflight checks include ensuring the POH is in the cockpit and fuel levels are adequate.
- In case of engine failure during takeoff, throttle back and apply brakes immediately.

Operating Notes
The operating notes section outlines critical safety information for the Piper PA-28-180. It includes cautions regarding the stall warning system, fuel pump operation, and the electrical system specifications. Notably, it warns against taking off with snow, ice, or frost on the aircraft surfaces.
Speeds (MPH)
This section lists important airspeeds for the Piper PA-28-180, including Vso (stalling speed in landing configuration) at 57 MPH, Vr (rotation speed) between 50-60 MPH, Vx (best angle of climb) at 74 MPH, and Vy (best rate of climb) at 85 MPH. Other speeds include Vfe (maximum flap extended speed) at 115 MPH and Vne (never exceed speed) at 171 MPH.
Specifications & Limits
The specifications and limits section provides essential data such as the maximum gross weight of 2400 lbs, an empty weight of 1705 lbs, and a fuel capacity of 50 USG. It also states the maximum demonstrated crosswind component of 15 knots and G limits of +3.8.
Preflight
The preflight checklist includes steps such as checking weight and balance, fuel levels, and ensuring that the POH is in the cockpit. It emphasizes the importance of checking the master switch, fuel pump, and various lights before starting the engine.
Emergency Procedures
Emergency procedures cover critical actions during engine failure, electrical fires, and forced landings. For instance, in the event of an engine failure during takeoff, the checklist instructs to throttle back, apply brakes, and cut off the mixture.
Safety notes
- CAUTION: Stall warning is inoperative with master switch OFF.
- CAUTION: Fuel pump switch must be ON for takeoff and landing.
- WARNING: Do not take off with snow, ice, or frost on wing and tail surfaces.
