Engine Fire During Start
In the event of an engine fire during start, the pilot should crank the engine, set the mixture to idle cut-off, open the throttle, turn off the electric fuel pump, and switch the fuel selector off. If the fire persists, abandon the aircraft.
Engine Power Loss During Takeoff (Not Airborne)
If power loss occurs during takeoff and there is sufficient runway, close the throttle and apply brakes to stop straight ahead. If there is insufficient runway, the same initial actions apply, followed by setting the mixture to idle cut-off, turning off the fuel selector, master switch, and magnetos, while maintaining directional control.
Power Off Landing
For a power-off landing, trim the aircraft to the best glide speed of 85 KIAS, locate a suitable airfield, and establish a spiral pattern. At 1000 feet above the airfield, slow to 72 KIAS for the shortest landing. When committed to landing, turn off the ignition, master switch, fuel selector, and set the mixture to idle cut-off.
Fire in Flight
In case of an engine fire, turn off the fuel selector, close the throttle, set the mixture to idle cut-off, and turn off the electric fuel pump. For an electrical fire, turn off the master switch, cabin heat, and defroster, and open vents to clear smoke.
Loss of Fuel Pressure
If fuel pressure is lost, turn on the electric fuel pump and check that the fuel selector is on a full tank.
Safety notes
- Abandon aircraft if fire continues during engine start.
- Prepare for power-off landing in case of engine power loss.
- Land as soon as possible in case of loss of oil pressure or high oil temperature.
