Pre-Start Checks

The pre-start checks include ensuring that all loose items are stowed, seats are adjusted, hatches and harnesses are secure, and various controls are set correctly. The fuel should be on the lowest tank, and the mixture should be idle cut-off. The throttle should be closed, and the master switch turned on.

Start Checks

During start checks, the throttle is set to 1 cm open, and the fuel pump is turned on. The mixture is adjusted to rich for priming, and the fuel flow indicator should peak before the fuel pump is turned off. The engine is started by checking for a clear prop and engaging the magnetos.

Normal Takeoff Procedures

For normal takeoff, the nose wheel should be aligned with the centerline, and the throttle advanced smoothly. The aircraft should accelerate to a speed of 65-75 knots before rotation to climb attitude. After takeoff, the undercarriage is retracted once a positive rate of climb is established.

Emergency Procedures
