Preflight Check (Inside)
The inside preflight check includes verifying the fuel strainer, gear handle position, battery master switch, fuel endurance, flaps position, and ensuring the mixture is set to idle cut-off. It also includes checking the magneto switches, parking brake, pitot and static drains, and alternate static.
Preflight Check (Outside)
The outside preflight check involves inspecting the general condition of the aircraft, ensuring fuel caps are closed, checking oil levels (max 12 quarts, min 7 quarts), and confirming that baggage doors are closed.
Engine Start Procedures
The engine start procedures detail steps for both cold and hot engines, including checking the propeller area, setting the throttle, and engaging the starter. It emphasizes monitoring oil pressure and adjusting the throttle after the engine starts.
Taxi Check
The taxi check includes verifying brakes, compass and gyro functionality, and ensuring the attitude indicator is stable. It is crucial for confirming that the aircraft is ready for movement on the ground.
Check Before Departure
Before departure, pilots must complete a takeoff briefing, ensure the electric fuel pump is on, and check that navigation and landing lights are operational. Flaps should be set to the second notch (25°).
Safety notes
- Ensure the parking brake is set before starting the engine.
- Monitor oil pressure within 30 seconds after engine start.
