Overview

This document serves as a checklist for the Piper PA-34 Seneca, specifically the PA-34-200 model. It outlines normal and emergency procedures that pilots must follow before starting the engines, during takeoff, and in various emergency situations. The checklist is designed to ensure safety and proper operation of the aircraft, providing clear instructions for preflight inspections, engine start procedures, and emergency protocols. Pilots are advised to familiarize themselves with the Pilot Operating Handbook/Aircraft Flight Manual (POH/AFM) to fully understand the required procedures for safe aircraft operation.

  • Elevator & Rudder Trim must be SET before start.
  • VY is 105 MPH (91 KIAS) and VSO is 69 MPH (60 KIAS).
  • Mixture should be FULL RICH before takeoff.
  • For engine failure on takeoff, identify and feather the inoperative engine.
  • In case of electrical failure, reduce electrical load and monitor ammeters.

Normal Procedures

The normal procedures section includes a comprehensive checklist for preflight, engine start, before takeoff, and after landing. Key items include ensuring the elevator and rudder trim are set, conducting a complete preflight inspection, and confirming that fuel selectors are on. During engine start, the mixture should be in idle cutoff until fuel flow is indicated, and the throttles should be set to 800-1000 RPM after starting. V-speeds are also provided, such as VR at 80-85 MPH and VY at 105 MPH.

Emergency Procedures

The emergency procedures section details actions to take in the event of engine failure during takeoff and in flight. For engine failure on takeoff, pilots should identify the inoperative engine, verify it, and feather the propeller. In the event of an engine failure in flight, the checklist advises maintaining a minimum airspeed of 90 MPH and performing a manual gear descent if necessary. Specific actions for electrical failures and unfeathering procedures are also included.

Safety notes

  • Before using this checklist, the pilot shall become familiar with the POH/AFM and thoroughly understand the required procedures for aircraft operation.
