Engine Failure on Takeoff

In the event of an engine failure during takeoff, the pilot should maintain an airspeed of 89 KIAS, retract the landing gear and flaps, identify and verify the inoperative engine, and feather the propeller of the failed engine.

Engine Failure in Flight

If an engine fails in flight, maintain an airspeed of 89 KIAS. Set mixtures to full rich, propellers full forward, and throttles to 40" Hg. Gear and flaps should be up. Identify and verify the inoperative engine, then either fix or feather it as necessary.

Emergency Descent

To perform an emergency descent, close the throttles, set propellers to forward, enrich the mixtures, and extend the landing gear. Maintain an airspeed of 129 KIAS during the descent.

Electrical Failure ("ALT" Light)

In case of an electrical failure indicated by the "ALT" light, observe the ammeters. If both read zero, reduce electrical load to a minimum and turn off both alternator switches. Turn them back on one at a time to identify which alternator is operational.

Single Engine Fuel Management

When managing fuel with a single engine, use fuel from the tank on the same side as the operating engine. If using fuel from the opposite side, switch the fuel selector for the operating engine to crossfeed.
