Applicability

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES Page 1 of 1 AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/PA-38/16 Amdt 1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Piper PA-38 (Tomahawk) Series Aeroplanes AD/PA-38/16 Amdt 2 Main Landing Gear Attach Bolts - Modification 13/2008 Applicability: Model PA-38-112, all serial numbers. Requirement: Modify the main landing gear system in accordance with Piper Service Bulletin No. 673B dated 2 October 1986. Note: USA AD 90-19-03 refers. Compliance: At the first scheduled maintenance event for the issue of a maintenance release after the effective date of this AD, determine whether the Main Landing Gear Bolt Replacement Kit is installed. If this Kit is not installed, inspect the saddle clamps to determine whether they are forged or welded. At the second scheduled maintenance event for the issue of a maintenance release after the effective date of this AD, ensure the appropriate Main Landing Gear Bolt Replacement Kit is installed. Note: For aircraft with forged saddle clamps the appropriate kit is Piper P/N 765-171; and for aircraft with welded saddle clamps the appropriate kit is 765-172. This Amendment becomes effective on 18 December 2008. Background: This AD was originally issued in 1980 to mandate Piper SB No. 673. Amendment 1 was issued in 1982 to mandate Piper SB No. 673A.
