PIPER PA-46-310P Malibu
Piper PA-46 Malibu · Systems Description
Overview
This document is a service bulletin for the Piper PA-46-310P Malibu, specifically addressing maintenance and inspection procedures related to the aircraft's engine mount and exhaust systems. It applies to serial numbers 8408002 through 4608140 and outlines critical inspection intervals and compliance measures to ensure safety and performance. The bulletin emphasizes the importance of inspecting the engine mount actuator attach feet area for cracks, with a recommendation for replacement if any are found. It also discusses the use of Inconel materials in some components, highlighting the challenges in inspection due to potential internal corrosion. Overall, this document serves as a vital reference for maintenance personnel and pilots to maintain the airworthiness of the PA-46-310P Malibu.
- Inspect engine mount actuator attach feet area for cracks every 100 hours until replaced.
- Use Acorn Welding's RDC #C-RA03-047 for alternate compliance to reduce repetitive inspections.
- Inspect Inconel components for internal corrosion; remove carbon buildup for proper inspection.
- Check transition tie rod and bushing for movement; inspect for cracks at flange and body.
- Follow the specified parts list for accurate replacement and maintenance.

Inspection Requirements
The bulletin mandates inspections of the engine mount actuator attach feet area for cracks every 100 hours of operation until the mount is replaced. If cracks are found, the mount must be replaced immediately. Additionally, it mentions an alternate means of compliance through Acorn Welding's RDC #C-RA03-047, which can relieve repetitive inspections and enhance mount strength.
Material Considerations
Some components of the aircraft are made from Inconel, which is more difficult to inspect due to its tendency to corrode from the inside without visible signs. Proper inspection requires the removal of carbon buildup inside the muffler and checking for pinholes in welds.
Transition Assembly Inspections
The document specifies that the transition tie rod and bushing must be checked for movement, and the transition assembly should be inspected for cracks at the flange and body. Initial inspections are required after maintenance history, with visual inspections every 50 hours.
Parts List
A detailed parts list is provided, including various assemblies and components such as elbow assemblies, risers, headers, and gaskets, with specific part numbers for reference.
Safety notes
- Cracks in the engine mount must be addressed immediately to ensure safety.
- Inconel components require careful inspection due to potential internal corrosion.

Inspect engine mount actuator attach feet area for cracks and replace mount if cracks found. Inspection required every 100 hrs of operation till mount replaced. Acorn Welding alternate means of compliance RDC #C-RA03-047 will also relieve repetitive inspections, and produce a stronger and safer mount. Inspect transition for blisters or cracks starting at the bypass. Inspect joints for freedom of movement and distortion. Some of the parts for this aircraft are Inconel. Although Inconel is a far superior metal, it is more difficult to inspect. Inconel tends to corrode from the inside without showing signs of flaking or bulging like stainless steel. The carbon on the inside of the muffler should be removed to properly inspect the component. If the welds are developing pinholes the component will not pass an internal inspection. Slip fit stacks should be ordered as a complete assembly to ensure good joint integrity with smooth slip fits. Acorn Welding alternate means of compliance RDC #C-RA03-047 will also relieve repetitive inspections, and produce a stronger and safer mount.
