NORMAL CHECKLIST R44 Raven II
Robinson R44 Cadet · Checklist
Overview
This document is a checklist for the Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter, designed to assist pilots in conducting pre-flight, engine start, engine run-up, and shutdown procedures. It outlines critical checks and procedures that must be followed to ensure safe operation of the aircraft. The checklist is based on the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) for the R44 II and is FAA approved as of October 3, 2002. It serves as a quick reference for pilots to verify that all necessary steps are completed before and during flight operations, enhancing safety and efficiency.
- Fuel shut-off valve must be ON before engine start.
- Throttle should be CLOSED and mixture set to RICH during engine start.
- Idle RPM should be set to 55% with oil pressure above 25 psi after starting the engine.
- Magneto check should not exceed a 7% drop in 2 seconds during run-up.
- All switches should be OFF after shutdown, except for the STROBE light.

In this document
Before Engine Start
This section details the necessary checks before starting the engine, including ensuring the fuel shut-off valve is ON, completing the preflight check, and confirming that all circuit breakers are IN. It also includes checks for rotor blades, throttle position, and securing the cabin and baggage.
Engine Start
The engine start checklist includes steps such as turning on the master battery, ensuring controls are neutral, and checking the area for traffic. It specifies the throttle and mixture settings, as well as the procedure for engaging the starter button and monitoring oil pressure.
Engine Runup
During the engine run-up, pilots must check T's & P's (temperature and pressure), perform a magneto check, and ensure all doors and seatbelts are secured. The checklist includes specific RPM settings and checks for hydraulic systems.
Shutdown Procedures
The shutdown section outlines the steps to safely shut down the helicopter, including reducing RPM, turning off lights, and checking the clutch light. It specifies waiting times for mixture cutoff and rotor brake application.
Safety notes
- Only checks and procedures in the POH are approved.
- Ensure area is clear of traffic before engine start.
