Affected controllers were factory installed on: • • • R44 Helicopter S/Ns 2625 thru 2751, R44 Cadet Helicopter S/Ns 30061, 30071 thru 30093, and R44 II Helicopter S/Ns 14364, 14412 thru 14640. Affected controllers were also shipped as spares from October 2020 thru May 2023. TIME OF COMPLIANCE: By 29 February 2024. BACKGROUND: Moisture incursion may cause D270-1 governor controller malfunction. This bulletin requires exchanging Revision A thru E controllers for Revision F (or subsequent) controllers, which incorporate additional moisture protection. COMPLIANCE PROCEDURE: 1. For each affected controller, order one D270-1R governor (suffix “R” indicates exchange). NOTE: If desired, download & save existing EMU data prior to removing affected controller; replacement controller will have blank EMU. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Remove governor controller per R44 MM § 8.231. Install D270-1 Revision F (or subsequent) controller per R44 MM § 8.232. With an appropriately rated person at controls, perform starting engine and run-up checklist per Section 4 of R44 Pilot’s Operating Handbook. Run helicopter for 5 minutes and verify proper governor operation. Program new EMU ID per R22 & R44 EMU Technician’s Guide; ensure host computer has EMU Technician’s Software version 1.0.1.1 (released June 2023) or subsequent. Make appropriate maintenance record entries. APPROXIMATE COST: Parts: $1800, refunded upon return of affected controller. Alternately, return affected controller first to avoid charge.
