FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION Effective Date: Air Traffic Organization Policy May 19, 2026 Cancellation Date: December 24, 2026 SUBJ : Traffic Advisories 1. Purpose of this Notice. This notice introduces new procedures for the exchange of traffic information for aircraft on or approaching parallel runway centerlines separated by 1,000 feet or less and within Class D airspace.
2. Audience. This notice applies to the following Air Traffic Organization (ATO) service units: Air Traffic Services, Mission Support Services, System Operations Services, Safety and Technical Training, and all associated air traffic facilities.

4. Procedures. Amend FAA Order JO 7110.65 by changing the following paragraphs to read as follows: 2–1–21. TRAFFIC ADVISORIES Unless an aircraft is operating within Class A airspace or omission is requested by the pilot, issue traffic advisories to all aircraft (IFR or VFR) on your frequency when, in your judgment, their proximity may diminish to less than the applicable separation minima. Where no separation minima applies, such as for VFR aircraft outside of Class B/Class C airspace, or a TRSA, issue traffic advisories to those aircraft on your frequency when in your judgment their proximity warrants it, or as indicated in subparagraph d below. Provide this service as follows: Subparagraph a through c REFERENCE – No Change d. Within Class D airspace when parallel runways are separated by 1,000 feet or less, issue traffic advisories to aircraft on or approaching runway centerlines: 1. to an aircraft that is conducting a straight-in approach while another aircraft is turning base to the parallel runway (see FIG 2–1–1).
2. to an aircraft that will turn base while another aircraft is conducting a straight-in approach to the parallel runway (see FIG 2–1–1).

Hughes Technical Center; and the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center.
6. Background. Recent safety events raised awareness of the risk associated with aircraft operating in close proximity on parallel runways separated by 1,000 feet or less. FAA Order JO 7110.65 provides extensive separation minima requirements for aircraft joining parallel finals in the radar environment; however, no such requirement exists within Class D airspace.
Additionally, recent analysis indicated the issuance of traffic advisories during close parallel runway operations assists in mitigating the associated risk.
