Box 1240 Afton, WY 83110 USA Tel: 307-885-3151 Fax: 307-885-9674 e-mail: aviat@aviataircraft.com DATE: 08 DEC 2021 <Mandatory Compliance> SUBJECT: FUSELAGE TUBE INSPECTION REVISION: IR AIRCRAFT MODELS AFFECTED: A-1, A-1A, A-1B, A-1C-180, & A-1C-200 ALL AIRCRAFT SERIAL NUMBERS ARE AFFECTED (AIRCRAFT CERTIFIED IN ANY AIRWORTHINESS CATEGORY) PURPOSE In the interest of safety and to be proactive concerning possible tube failures, Aviat Aircraft Inc. is issuing this Mandatory Service Bulletin requiring tube inspections. DESCRIPTION Aviat Aircraft Inc. has received a report from the field of a broken tube in the empennage section of the fuselage. The broken tube was discovered during the aircraft’s annual inspection. COMPLIANCE Within the next 40 hours of operating time or at next annual inspection whichever comes first and at each subsequent annual inspection, inspect the tubes in the empennage section of the fuselage for cracks or breaks. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS Step 1. On the empennage section of the fuselage locate the inspection covers on the LH and RH sides located just above and below the elevator/stabilizer hinge line, see figure 1. Remove the hole covers, remove two screws in each hole cover then move the hole cover forward to release the spring steel tab behind the fabric. With the hole covers removed, see figure 2, you will have access to the tubular structure of the fuselage. Step 3. Locate tubes, part numbers 35001-071, 35001-072, 35001-033, & 35001-034. See figure 3. The use of the applicable illustrated parts catalog (IPC) can be helpful to locate the applicable tubes. In the IPC, see section 6, Fuselage Structure, items no. 61 & 63. Step 4. With the tubes located, the inspection of the tubes can begin. Using a light and a mirror, or other suitable methods, inspect the tubes from top to the bottom for any cracks or breaks. After inspection is complete, and if no cracks or breaks are found, make a logbook entry with compliance to this service bulletin and send in the compliance letter.
