AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
Cessna 188 AGwagon · Airworthiness Directives
Overview
This document is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Australia, specifically concerning the Cessna 188 Agwagon series aeroplanes. The directive outlines the cancellation of a previous AD, AD/CESSNA 188/13, which mandated inspections of the front main spar and doublers at attachment points. The cancellation is based on the fact that the requirements of the revoked AD are now covered by another directive, AD/CESSNA 188/22, which applies to aircraft manufactured prior to 1972, and acknowledges design improvements made in later models. This document serves as an official record of the cancellation and provides historical context regarding the safety inspections of the aircraft's structural components.
- The document cancels AD/CESSNA 188/13 effective 28 August 2008.
- AD/CESSNA 188/13 required inspections of the front main spar and doublers.
- The cancellation is due to the requirements being covered by AD/CESSNA 188/22.
- AD/CESSNA 188/22 applies to aircraft manufactured prior to 1972.
- Later production Cessna 188 models have design improvements for increased wing spar fatigue life.

Airworthiness Directive Cancellation
The document officially cancels Airworthiness Directive AD/CESSNA 188/13, effective from 28 August 2008. This cancellation is due to the directive being redundant, as its requirements are now encompassed by AD/CESSNA 188/22, which addresses the inspection of the front and rear spars for aircraft manufactured prior to 1972.
Background Information
The background section explains that the original AD was issued in 1969 and required inspections of the front spar and doublers. In 1974, a subsequent AD expanded the inspection requirements and incorporated design improvements for aircraft produced after 1972, thereby making the original AD unnecessary.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES Page 1 of 1 AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive AD/CESSNA 188/13. Cessna 188 (Agwagon) Series Aeroplanes AD/CESSNA 188/13 Front Main Spar 9/2008 Requirement: CANCELLED. This AD is cancelled on 28 August 2008. Background: This unique Australian AD issued in 1969, required inspection of the front spar and doublers at the attachment points. In 1974, CASA issued AD/CESSNA 188/22 which required inspection of the front and rear spars and covered the requirements of this AD for aircraft manufactured prior to 1972. Later production aircraft incorporated design improvements to increase the wing spar fatigue life. As this AD is covered by AD/CESSNA 188/22 for aircraft manufactured prior to 1972 and design improvements for aircraft manufactured after 1972, the AD is no longer required.
