In addition, products may have been used on kit planes, homebuilt aircraft or by float manufacturers. REASON: Parker Hannifin has received reports of surface irregularities in the web wall areas surrounding the hub on the wheel assemblies listed above. The returned products have been examined and determined to contain through wall discontinuities (non- knitting or crack-like indications). It is required that product containing indications be thoroughly examined and if determined to be defective must be removed from service. Continued use of a defective product could result in the loss of directional control or brake effectiveness during taxi. DESCRIPTION; This service bulletin is issued to inform users of the above mentioned products of possible defects and the requirement to inspect aircraft and stock rooms for listed part numbers impression stamped with MFG. DATE 03/95 and later. COMPLIANCE: Mandatory- Perform accomplishment instructions as outlined on page 2. APPROVAL: The contents of this Service Bulletin are FAA DER approved. WT. & BAL.: Not Applicable PUBLICATIONS: This service bulletin will be incorporated into the Cleveland Wheels & Brakes Component Maintenance Manual. SERVICE BULLETIN SB7064 Page 2 of 3 Initial Release May 13, 1999 ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS: A) SPARES INVENTORY 1) Immediately upon receipt of this Service Bulletin, inspect all spares inventory for above referenced wheel assemblies, wheel half assemblies and wheel half subassemblies to identify affected products having MFG. DATE 03/95 or later. 2) The MFG. DATE is impression stamped on the outer web surface of the tube well on a pad adjacent to the axle hub. Refer to Figure 1 below. 3) Return all affected products to the point of purchase for warranty consideration. B) PRODUCT INSTALLED ON AIRCRAFT 1) At next annual inspection, tire change or within 100 flight hours, whichever occurs first, visually inspect the applicable aircraft to determine if affected products are installed. Note: This process may be facilitated by reviewing the aircraft maintenance records for all type certificated aircraft, kit aircraft or float systems using the products referenced above. If wheel products have been replaced on the aircraft after the 03/95 date, then it may be possible that an affected replacement part was installed. Nose wheel assemblies should be visible without removal from aircraft. Inner wheel half assemblies on a main wheel may require removal from the aircraft. If so, jack aircraft in accordance with airframe manufacturers' maintenance instructions and remove wheel to gain access to the MFG. DATE (See instruction A2 above and Figure 1 below). 2) Aircraft that have been identified as not being equipped with affected products may be returned to service. 3) For aircraft that are identified as being equipped with affected products, replacement of product or a dye penetrant inspection is required. Dye penetrant inspection requires that the products be stripped and thoroughly inspected for defects in accordance with the Cleveland Wheels & Brakes Component Maintenance Manual. Product that has been determined to be airworthy may be repainted and returned to service. Make appropropriate entry in aircraft log books. NOTE: All general aviation wheel products regardless of the construction or materials used in their manufacture are to be periodically inspected in accordance with the Cleveland Wheels & Brakes Component Maintenance Manual. 4) Products that are determined to be defective are to be returned to the point of purchase for warranty consideration. Note: The 6 inch die cast wheel products are no longer being manufactured. Therefore, replacement products in the form of a complete wheel and brake conversion kit may be ordered from distribution. See Replacement Kits to determine which conversion kit is required for your application.
