Citation CJ4X consists of a simulated replica of the Citation Model 525C and developed for use with Microsoft® Flight Simulator® X, Microsoft® Flight Simulator® X: Steam Edition, Lockheed Martin® PREPAR3D® v1, v2 and v3 (all of them are 32-bit) and Lockheed Martin® PREPAR3D® v4 (dedicated 64-bit version). This product features a Mid-Level systems programming, featuring also an advanced FMS developed and licensed by Eric Marciano. And it has been simplified as well, to allow you enjoy the simming experience while bringing you a good look-and-feel of this marvelous aircraft. In case of problems while retrieving directories (e.g.: because it is pointing to a path where there are no FS-related files), it is recommended to repair your Flight Simulator and/or Prepar3D installation. After installing this product on your PC, you will receive these prompts, only if you installed for FSX and/or FSX-SE. Because of the FSX Module Trusting Engine, which is the same one Microsoft developed for software trustiness verification by digital signature, these kind of situations are normal. Just follow these steps and everything will work. Citation CJ4X User Manual 8 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) ‘The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?’ or ‘Do you want to run this software?’ question dialog. Here, you should always answer Run for each of the modules the prompts are requesting permission for loading. Not doing so, will result in the aircraft NOT loading and the sim crashing to desktop when the aircraft is selected and loaded. Also, there is an additional prompt like the one in the figure above this paragraph. In order to prevent prompt nagging with subsequent FS sessions, it is recommended to click Yes on the second prompt for each of the modules, so that the simulator will trust always on them and will never prompt again in the future. If you installed this product under Prepar3D, these prompts never appear, so you will never be disturbed, even on the aircraft’s first load. This tutorial begins first with a Quick-Start Guide that will take you from sim loading to launching off on your first flight, whose purpose is to keep things as simple and straight- forward as possible, in order to give you the opportunity to enjoy what the simulation has to offer without getting you lost! This tutorial will start you in a powered-up and ready-to-go CJ4 from Key West International Airport (KEYW), and you will follow step-by-step everything to eventually arrive at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (KRDU). Checklists For those who are familiar with this aircraft or if you want to follow real procedures like the real pilots, this manual is for you. This section of the general product documentation should be thought as a step-by-step guide to operate the aircraft. No matter if you start your flight in Cold & Dark condition or if you are on the runway and ready for takeoff, this guide gives you a step-by-step process to take you to the next phase of flight. Citation CJ4X User Manual 10 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Quick-Start Guide/Frequently Asked Questions This section is designed to get you flying this aircraft as soon as possible. It is recommended to read it in order to answer most of the questions asked on technical support. Q: Where can I find the airplanes after installing? A: In FSX or FSX-SE, under the Select Aircraft dialog, you can search by manufacturer and by publisher. For this aircraft, Manufacturer is Cessna and Publisher is NextGen Simulations. Just remember to verify if the ‘Show All Variations’ button is checked. If not, please check it and you will get all liveries included in the product. In Prepar3D, under the Select Vehicle dialog, you can search by Manufacturer, Vehicle Type and Publisher, through the vehicles list. For this aircraft, Manufacturer is Cessna, Vehicle Type is Citation CJ4 and Publisher is NextGen Simulations. You can also type ‘nextgen’ on the Search box, and you will get the list of all NextGen’s aircraft and liveries. Citation CJ4X User Manual 11 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Q: How do I perform an Engine Start? A: You can either press Ctrl+E, and the automatic engine start will commence, or follow the procedures for manual engine starting, given in the Tutorial Flight section of the general documentation. Q: How do I access Camera views? A: In FSX, FSX-SE and Prepar3D (up to v2), click on menus Views>View Mode>Cockpit or Views>View Mode>Aircraft. In Prepar3D (since v3), go to Views>Change View>Cockpit or Views>Change View>Aircraft. There you will get all the cameras list for outside and inside the aircraft. Citation CJ4X User Manual 13 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) CJ4 Background The CitationJet (CJ) series (Model 525) are light business jets part of the Citation family. As of June 2017, 2,000 units have been delivered with five million hours flown. The CitationJet is a low-wing cantilever monoplane with retractable trailing-link tricycle landing gear, a pressurized cabin, a T-tail, and is powered by two Williams FJ44 turbofan engines that are pylon- mounted on the rear fuselage. Basically an all new aircraft, the CitationJet used a modified version of the Citation's forward fuselage, but with a new supercritical laminar flow wing, and a new T-tail configured tailplane. It features EFIS avionics and single pilot certification. CitationJet/Model 525 First delivered in 1993, the original CitationJet, or Model 525, was created as a replacement for the Citation I. Compared to the Citation I, the CitationJet has a modified fuselage, a new supercritical laminar flow wing, a new tail, and new avionics. Its cabin also has a lowered aisle for increased cabin height. The CitationJet comes equipped with two Williams FJ44-1A turbofan engines. It has a normal cruise speed of 355 knots, a range of 1,250 nautical miles, a climb rate of 3,311 feet per minute, and requires approximately 3,910 feet of runway for takeoff and 3,309 feet for landing. In 2000, CJ1 was introduced to the market. In 2005, they moved on to the CJ1+. For the CJ1+, the Williams FJ44-1AP FADEC-controlled engines were used, giving the CJ1+ slightly more thrust and increased operating weights. The CJ1+ was also given an interior upgrade, and its ProLine 21 avionics system was equipped with FMS-3000, providing full 3D navigational capabilities. Parallel to the timeline of the CJ1/CJ1+, CJ2 was introduced in 2000 and followed the CJ2+ in 2005. The CJ2 comes equipped with FJ44-2C engines, while the FJ44-3A-24 engines found on the CJ2+ offer better fuel efficiency, an increased range, improved climb rate, better takeoff performance and Citation CJ4X User Manual 14 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) increased useful payload, as well as a redesigned cabin for extra noise reduction, making it a significantly more comfortable ride for passengers. FADEC was also added to the CJ2+, making flights more comfortable for the pilot, as well. The CJ3 hit the market in 2004, followed by the CJ3+ in 2014. The biggest changes that took place from the CJ3 to the CJ3+ took place in the cockpit with an upgraded avionics system and complete cockpit redesign, moving from the Rockwell Collins ProLine 21 found on the CJ3 to the Garmin G3000. The change from the ProLine 21 to the G3000 eliminated many of the switches previously found in the cockpit, leading to a complete redesign. FADEC control, air conditioning, pressurization, ignition control, lights and system test, all of which were previously controlled by switches, were integrated into the G3000. Citation CJ4 (Model 525C) Model 525C was first introduced in 2006, with a moderately swept wing similar to those found on the Citation Sovereign. Like its predecessor the Citation CJ3, is a stretch extension of the previous Citation Jet model, its cabin is 21 inches longer than the CJ3, allowing it to seat as many as nine passengers with a single pilot. Like the CJ3, the CJ4 comes equipped with the ProLine 21 avionics system. It first flew on May 5th 2008, from McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas and first deliveries started in 2010. It is equipped with two Williams FJ44-4A turbofan engines, and the CJ4 has a normal cruise speed that blows all of the previous Citation Jets out of the water at 443 knots, a range of 2,165 nautical miles, a climb rate of 3,854 feet per minute, and it requires approximately 3,410 feet of runway to takeoff and 2,940 to land. There are 150 Citation CJ4 aircraft in operation with 7 in shared ownership and 143 wholly owned. By continent, North America has the largest percentage at 77%, followed by Europe at 14% for a combined total of 91%. Also, 7% of the 150 Citation CJ4 jets in operation today are in fleet ownership with five different companies each having five aircraft. Additionally, 5% of the Citation CJ4 jets are leased. All models are optimized for better performance while keeping good look and feel. On Prepar3D (since v3), they count with Dynamic Reflection and Dynamic Lighting capabilities (since v4) for greater experience. Offered in Photoshop format and GIMP format, no matter which of them you use, your imagination is the limit. Flight Deck Both 2D and 3D versions of the CJ4’s flightdeck are provided. Option for different screen ratios is available as well, and 16:9 widescreen is default. Ratios available are: 16:9 and 4:3. Citation CJ4X User Manual 17 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) 16:9-widescreen 2D panel counts with 4 main panel alternatives: Pilot IFR view, Pilot VFR view, Copilot IFR view and Copilot VFR view. 4:3-squarescreen 2D panel counts with only 2 main panel alternatives: Pilot view and Copilot View (both IFR view-mode). The 2D flightdeck also counts with the following subpanels:  Tilt Panel (Left)  Tilt Panel (Right)  Lighting Panel  Throttle Quadrant Panel/Control Stand  Trim Panel  FMC  Radio Stack All 2D panel functionality is available on the 3D Virtual Cockpit. Flight Management System NextGen Simulations is proud to feature EasyFMC, developed and licensed for use with this product by FS developer Eric Marciano. This EasyFMC is intended for using ONLY with this aircraft. It CANNOT and is STRICTLY PROHIBITED its installation or use with any other NextGen aircraft or third-party aircraft. For more information about EasyFMC, check here: http://emarciano.free.fr/En/EasyFMC.htm The FMS interacts with the autopilot to provide route lateral navigation (LNAV). The NAV mode of the autopilot, when switched to FMS navigation source, directs the Autopilot to fly the flight plan route automatically. Users can use the FMS to manually create flight plans without using the FSX/P3D default flight planner. About navigation database, this FMC utilizes Flight Simulator GPS database to maintain consistency with the world you are flying on, so this product does not count with support for third-party databases such as Navigraph FMS Data or Aerosoft NavDataPro, however this feature is being reviewed for future development. For more information about how to update the default GPS database, please visit this website: https://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids3.html Systems Programming The real-life CJ4 is a complex aircraft in terms of systems, especially autopilot and engine control (FADEC). There is a high level of automation on this aircraft, but here the Citation CJ4X has been simplified for you, so that you enjoy a greater flight-simming experience without being overwhelmed by a full-level simulation. Most of the essential systems (Hydraulics, Electrical and Fuel Systems especially) have been simulated for normal conditions ONLY, so abnormal conditions such as engine fires or in-flight emergencies are not simulated here. This aircraft also counts with a basic GPWS rendition as well, with Altitude & Decision Height Callouts and Sinkrate & Excessive Bank Angle Awareness Callouts. Sounds This product counts with the most realistic sound rendition of the Williams FJ44-4A turbofan engines, ever available for Flight Simulator. In addition to the engines, a mix of cockpit sounds has been included in the Citation CJ4X, to provide a more comfortable feeling of being in the real-life aircraft. Citation CJ4X User Manual 18 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Listen to the sound of the aural warnings, guard clicks, button clicks, and a virtual copilot guiding you with v-speeds at takeoff, plus all the GPWS callouts each time you are approaching and preparing for landing. Every essential sound is covered here. Flight Dynamics Invisible to the eye, but you can feel it when using your joystick or yoke. Based on real-life specifications, the Flight Dynamics will always bring you a really great flight experience. Pitch is the Nose-Up and Nose- Down movement of the aircraft, also known as Attitude. The greater fins move for short-term attitude changes, while long-term pitch changes are controlled by the trim tabs. There is one elevator with trim fin on each horizontal stabilizer. The elevators move UP and DOWN in order to make the aircraft climb or descend. For instance, when you push the control column forward, the elevators move down making the aircraft’s nose pitch downward. Instead, if you pull the control column backward, the elevators will move up, thus making the nose pitch upward. Elevators are controlled either manually by the pilot or automatically by the Autopilot and they are cable-operated. Pitch can be monitored through the Attitude Indicator. (2) Ailerons (green) Ailerons control the aircraft’s roll along its longitudinal axis. There is one aileron with trim tab on each wing. Ailerons move on opposite directions to each other in order to make the aircraft turn. Citation CJ4X User Manual 25 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) For instance, when you turn the control wheel to the left, the left aileron raises to ‘dip’ the left wing, while the right aileron ‘raises’ the right wing. Elevators are controlled either manually by the pilot or automatically by the Autopilot and they are cable-operated. Roll can be monitored through the Attitude Indicator. (3) Rudder (blue) A single cable-operated rudder controls the aircraft yaw along its directional/vertical axis. Yaw is the side-to-side movement of the aircraft. The rudder is located at the vertical stabilizer. It counts with a trim tab, and is controlled via the pedals. For instance, when you push the left pedal forward, the rudder moves to the left, causing the aircraft nose turn to the left. Be aware that rudder movements may induce rolls, so if the rudder is fully deployed to the left, the aircraft will turn to the left in the same way as described in the previous example. This is because the right wing speeds up a bit, so that increases lift on that wing. Rudder is controlled either manually by the pilot or automatically by the Autopilot and Yaw Damper. (4) Trailing-Edge Flaps / Wing Flaps (purple) Flaps modify the aerodynamic configuration of the airplane, in order to improve performance during specific flight conditions. With them, takeoff and landing characteristics are improved and greater maneuverability is provided to meet climb and descent requirements. The flap system consists of a flap control surface mounted on each wing that extend from the trailing edge of the latter. Both Trailing-Edge flaps are hydraulically actuated by the main hydraulic system and are electrically controlled. Normal flap travel is from 0 to 35 degrees, with an intermediate detent at 15 degrees, installed for take-off and approach configurations. (5) Speed Brakes (orange) The speed brakes are installed on the upper and lower surfaces of each wing for rapid rates of descent, rapid deceleration, and to spoil lift during landing roll, together with the ground spoilers. They are electrically controlled and hydraulically actuated. (6) Ground Spoilers (yellow) The ground spoilers are installed on the upper surface of each wing and used in conjunction with the speed brakes for lift dumping after landing, they cannot be used while the aircraft is airborne, even if the speed brake lever is at full deployment position. They are hydraulically actuated and electrically controlled. CJ4 – Ground Service (1) Pitot Covers These covers are emulated to prevent the pitot tubes from dust or any other foreign object. They have a distinctive REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT red ribbon. When they are set, airspeed indicators and altimeters will not work unless removed. (2) Engine Cowling Used to cover the engines inlet and nozzle, and protect them from foreign objects. Remove them before starting a flight. (3) Wheel Chocks & Traffic Cones When parked on ground, use the chocks to ensure the aircraft is completely in rest and not moving. Also, traffic cones are set for warning around the aircraft. (4) Ground Power Unit Use the GPU to provide auxiliary electrical supply and charge battery, while the aircraft is in ground and you require a long waiting time before you start your flight plan. Separate volume knobs/switches allow the pilot to select which radios to listen to. There are 7 available audio selector/volume controls: COM1, COM2, DME1, ADF1, MKR, NAV1, and NAV2. The controls are push-lock switches. In the out position, the selected source is output to the headphones and speaker. In the in position, the audio is off for the selected source. Electrical Panel This panel controls everything related with aircraft’s electrical supply sources. (1) Left Generator Switch. Only two positions (ON and OFF). By default ON. Controls whether the left engine generator is working or not. (2) Battery Switch. Only two positions (ON and OFF). This switch controls the main battery supply. When there is no GPU working, all panel circuit turns off. Otherwise, the panel circuit (instruments) remains on regardless of the battery off. (3) Right Generator Switch. Only two positions (ON and OFF). By default ON. Controls whether the right engine generator is working or not. To change position for this switch and the previous ones, use single click only. (4) Emergency Lights Switch. Three positions (ARMED, OFF and ON). Used for emergencies and/or abnormal situations. When they are not armed, a message appears in the CAS. More information about the CAS here. (5) Standby Flight Display Switch. Three positions (ON, OFF and TEST). Place the switch to ON so the standby/backup PFD remains on. When placing it to OFF position, the unit’s display is blank. When TEST position is used, the unit’s display shows zebra-kind strips, in order to verify if the unit works as expected. (6) Avionics Switch. Three positions (ON, OFF and DISPATCH). When ON, all avionics and flight instruments are online and ready for flight. When OFF, all displays except Standby PFD (when switch is in either ON or TEST position) and Pilot MFD remain on. On DISPATCH mode, only Standby PFD and MFD remain on, but avionics online. A V-shaped single cue aircraft symbol is in the center of the attitude ball. Roll Scale The roll scale at the top of the attitude ball indicates the current roll attitude. A fixed triangle at the top of the scale indicates 0° of roll. The white tick marks indicate 10°, 20°, and 30° of roll. The small triangles indicate 45° of roll. The white tick marks outside of the triangles indicate 60° of roll. The roll pointer moves left or right as appropriate to indicate roll. Pitch Tape The white pitch tape is centered on the attitude ball. The white horizon line indicates 0° of pitch, and pivots in roll around the aircraft symbol. Pitch marks are in increments of 2.5° up to ±30° of pitch. When the aircraft exceeds ±30° of pitch, the scale expands to ±90° of pitch. Slip/Skid Indicator A white rectangle at the base of the roll pointer indicates slip/skid attitude. The slip/skid indicator moves with the roll pointer in turns. The slip/skid indicator moves sideways to show lateral acceleration. One-rectangle displacement equals a one-ball displacement of a traditional inclinometer (turn coordinator). Unusual Attitude Indication When pitch angle is greater than 30° nose up or 20° nose down, or roll angle exceeds 65°, red warning chevrons show on the pitch tape. The command bars present pitch and roll guidance information from the FGS / Autopilot when the FD is active. The command bars are normally centered on the aircraft symbol (zero input). The command bars move up and down to command a climb or descent, and rotate right and left to command a right or left bank. Marker Beacon Annunciation The marker beacon annunciation shows on the left side of the attitude ball. • The outer marker annunciation is a cyan, boxed “OM” that appears when the aircraft is passing over an outer marker beacon. • The middle marker annunciation is a yellow, boxed “MM” that appears when the aircraft is passing over a middle marker beacon. • The inner marker annunciation is a white, boxed “IM” that appears when the aircraft is passing over an inner marker beacon. ILS Vertical Deviation Display The ILS vertical deviation display consists of a scale and pointer that shows between the attitude ball and the altitude display as a “cutout” section. The ILS vertical deviation display shows when LOC is the active course to indicate deviation from the glideslope (G/S). • The deviation scale consists of two gray dots above and below a center tick mark. • The deviation scale shows when LOC is the active NAV source. • The scale goes out of view when B/C localizer logic is active. • The deviation pointer is a diamond shape and is the same color as the LOC source. • Each of the inner dots represents approximately a ¼-degree displacement. The outer dots represent approximately a ½-degree displacement. • The pointer indicates the position of the glideslope relative to the aircraft. The glideslope is below the aircraft when the pointer is above the center mark, and above the aircraft when the pointer is below the center mark. The active mode is the upper field and the armed mode is the lower field. • The lateral mode field shows the mode currently selected for the FGS. • Once the lateral mode is captured, the navigation sensor (LNV, VOR or LOC) shows in green in the active mode field, and the ROLL or HDG annunciation is removed. The AP/YD engaged window is the upper window, and the AP transfer window is the lower window. • AP shows in green in the AP/YD engaged window when the autopilot is engaged. If the autopilot is disconnected either by the pilot or automatically, AP is removed. • YD shows in green in the AP/YD engaged window when only the yaw damper is engaged. If the yaw damper is disconnected, YD is removed. The yaw damper may be engaged independently of the autopilot. If the autopilot is subsequently engaged, the yaw damper remains engaged, and the AP annunciation replaces the YD annunciation. • The transfer arrow shows in the AP transfer window to indicate which FGC is driving the control servos when the autopilot is engaged (or would be driving the servos upon autopilot engagement). • A closed arrowhead points to the side that is providing navigation inputs to the FGS. • The arrow is green when the autopilot is engaged and white when the autopilot is not engaged but the FD is active. Vertical Mode Field (Right) The vertical mode field is split into two fields, an upper active mode field and a lower armed mode field. Armed modes show in white on the lower field, and active modes show in green on the upper mode field. The FGS vertical mode annunciations and the associated function are as follows: PTCH Pitch Hold ALT CAP Altitude Hold Acquisition ALT Altitude Hold Track ALTS Pre-Selected Altitude Hold Arm VS NNNN↑ Selected VS acquisition/track. The equivalent metric value of Barometric Altitude can show in addition to the display in feet. Metric Preselect Altitude is also available for display. Barometric Pressure Setting and RA/BARO MIN Readout also show on the PFD. Altitude Display Parts Name Description Barometric Pressure Setting Barometric (BARO) pressure setting shows under the altitude display on the PFD. The BARO knob on the DCP controls the setting. The units of measurement can be set in inches of mercury (INHG) or HectoPascals (hPa) via the CONFIG menu. The PUSH STD knob on the DCP sets the standard BARO setting to 29.92. More information about Display Control Panel here. More information about CONFIG menu here. Radio Altitude Display The radio altitude display consists of an analog scale and a digital readout. The digital readout shows when the aircraft is within 2500 feet of the ground, and shows on the lower part of the attitude ball. The readout is normally green. • The analog scale is brown and replaces a portion of the dark blue background of the altitude scale. The scale comes into view when radio altitude is approximately 225 feet. • The analog scale moves up as the aircraft approaches ground level. It meets the 0 FT mark when the radio altitude is 0 feet AGL. Citation CJ4X User Manual 37 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Pre-Select Altitude Display The Pre-Select Altitude (PSA) display consists of a digital readout above the altitude tape and a reference bug on the tape. The ALT knob sets the Pre-Select Altitude. • The normal increments for PSA are 100 feet. • If BARO MIN bug is enabled, PSA can be set to the same value as the BARO MIN altitude. • The range for PSA is 0 to 55,000 feet, or 0 to 16,765 meters. • The PSA readout is normally cyan. • The PSA bug shows on the altitude tape as a sideways cyan “M” centered at the PSA altitude. • At system power up, the PSA readout is off. Cyan dashes shows in the PSA field and the reference bug does not show on the altitude tape. The first turn of the ALT knob brings the PSA readout into view. Slip/Skid Indicator A white rectangle at the base of the roll pointer indicates slip/skid attitude. The slip/skid indicator moves with the roll pointer in turns. The slip/skid indicator moves sideways to show lateral acceleration. One-rectangle displacement equals a one-ball displacement of a traditional inclinometer (turn coordinator). As the pointer moves, the drag line appears to emphasize the vertical speed. • Range of the scale is ±4000 feet per minute (fpm). • Range of the VS pointer is ±4300 fpm. Vertical Speed Readout A digital readout of the current VS appears at the top or bottom of the VS scale. The VS readout is always rounded to the nearest 100 feet. • The readout shows at the top of the scale when the climb rate is greater than or equal to 300 fpm. • The readout shows at the bottom of the scale when the descent rate is greater than or equal to 300 fpm. • Range of the digital VS readout is 0 to ±15,000 fpm. Selected VS Display The selected VS display shows on the VS scale as a reference bug and as a digital display on the FGS field above the attitude display. • The selected VS bug and display only show when the autopilot VS or ALT mode is active. • The Pitch wheel on the APP sets the selected VS. • The reference bug shows as a cyan arrow. • Clearing the autopilot VS or ALT mode or selecting another vertical mode removes the reference bug and readout from display. Citation CJ4X User Manual 39 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Airspeed Display Airspeed Display Parts Name Description Airspeed Display The airspeed display consists of a vertical airspeed tape, fixed position pointer, and the current airspeed readout inside the pointer. • An analog moving scale is centered on the airspeed tape with 80 knots of the scale in view at all times. Short tick marks show at intervals of 5 knots, and longer tick marks show every 10 knots. Numbers show every 20 knots. • Range for the airspeed scale is 40 to 400 knots. • The current airspeed shows in a digital readout inside the fixed pointer. • Range for the airspeed readout is 40 to 999 knots. Airspeeds below 40 knots show as two green dashes. Airspeed Trend Vector The airspeed trend vector is a vertical, variable-length magenta line that shows to the right of the airspeed scale. The airspeed trend vector approximates what the airspeed will be in 10 seconds at the present rate of acceleration or deceleration. • The airspeed trend vector originates from a gray tick mark directly opposite the airspeed pointer. • The end of the airspeed trend vector is a horizontal line that points at the airspeed scale. • The length of the airspeed trend vector is limited to the span of 40 knots on the airspeed scale. • The airspeed trend vector extends up for acceleration, and down for deceleration. • The airspeed trend vector shows when the aircraft is airborne. Citation CJ4X User Manual 40 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) • The airspeed trend vector does not show on the ground, and is removed if any of the data inputs to calculate the airspeed trend are missing. Impending Stall Speed Cue The impending stall speed (ISS) cue shows at the bottom right of the airspeed tape to warn the pilot when the aircraft approaches to stall. • The stall speed cue is a thick red vertical line that extends from the design stall speed (VS0 and VS1, depending on aircraft configuration) to the bottom of the airspeed tape. • ISS is variable and is equal to 1.1VS. • The ISS cue does not show on the ground. The ISS cue is removed if the IAS failure flag shows. More information about display flags here. Overspeed Cue The overspeed cue shows to warn the pilot that the airspeed is approaching or exceeding the airspeed limit for the airframe. • The overspeed cue is a thick red vertical line that shows at the top right of the airspeed tape. • The bottom of the overspeed cue is positioned at VMO speed, until MMO speed becomes more restrictive. The bottom of the overspeed cue then shifts to MMO speed (shown in knots). V-Speed Reference Bugs V-speed reference bugs show on the airspeed tape as a visual cue of the takeoff and approach speeds. V-speeds are set through the REFS menu. Each V-speed must be selected (turned on) for the reference bug to show on the airspeed tape. Each reference bug shows as a cyan horizontal line with a cyan label on the airspeed tape at the appropriate speed. Labels for the bugs are as follows: - 1 V1 – Takeoff decision speed - R VR – Rotation speed - 2 V2 – Takeoff safety speed - RF VREF – Reference Airspeed at 50 ft. runway threshold - AP VAPP – Approach climb speed (1.3VS1) with 15° flaps and gear up - T VT – General-purpose target speed • V1, VR, and V2 speed references are automatically removed from the airspeed tape when the aircraft is airborne and the airspeed reaches 200 knots. • VREF and VAPP are automatically removed from the airspeed tape any time the IAS is less than 50 knots. Selected Speed Bug The selected speed bug shows on the airspeed tape, and as an icon and digital readout above the airspeed tape. The bug, icon, and readout are all cyan. The setting may be changed by moving the APP speed knob. • The selected speed bug setting may be referenced to IAS or Mach. When the speed bug is first in view IAS or Mach is the reference. Selecting FLC button on the APP toggles the reference from IAS to Mach or Mach to IAS. • The PFD automatically changes the speed reference from IAS to Mach when the aircraft is climbing through 31,000 feet or above, and changes from Mach to IAS when the aircraft is descending through 31,000 feet or below. • The selected speed bug and digital readout are removed from the display if selected speed data is missing. Speed Reference Table The speed reference table on the bottom half of the airspeed tape shows the digital readouts of the selected V-speed references. • The speed reference table overwrites the airspeed scale when the aircraft is on the ground and the airspeed is less than 40 knots. The speed reference table rolls out of view as the airspeed increases above 40 knots. • V-speed values show in magenta on the speed reference table. Mach Display The Mach display is a green digital readout preceded by a decimal point and a gray “M” that shows below the airspeed tape. • Range of the Mach display is .400 to .998. • The Mach display comes on when Mach is ≥.400. The Mach display does not show when Mach is less than .400. • When Mach data is missing or invalid, the decimal point turns red and the readout is replaced by three red dashes. The AOA delivers critical information visually to indicate the actual safety margin above an aerodynamic stall. The pointer is white when ITT is in the normal range. • The pointer turns yellow when ITT enters the transient limit region. • The pointer turns red when ITT enters the redline limit region. • The ITT pointer is removed when ITT data from all sources is missing or invalid. Also, a FAIL flag is accompanied. ITT ITT Display (Engine Start) During engine start, the ITT display shows a start limit mark on the ITT scale. The start limit mark is a red triangle. IGN Ignition Annunciation The vertical green IGN legend appears on the left or right side of the ITT scale to indicate the left or right engine ignition switch is in the ON position. For aileron, -100% represents 19 degrees down to the left and 100% represents 19 degrees down to the right. For rudder, -100% represents 20 degrees fully to the left and 100% represents 20 degrees fully to the right. • The pointer is a solid triangle that moves left and right the scale to indicate the trim tab deflection. The pointers move independently. The aileron trim is the upper pointer, and the rudder trim is the lower pointer. • The pointers are white when both trim tabs are within the normal limits. • Range of normal limits is -30% to 30%. For aileron, ±5.7 degrees. For rudder, ±6 degrees. • The pointers turn yellow when either of them go outside the normal limits. FMS Flight Plan Display The FMS flight plan display shows when there is an active flight plan. The display consists of a table of four rows and five columns. • The rows display information about the flight plan waypoints. The first row show information for the previous waypoint, the second row is for the current waypoint enroute, the third row is the next waypoint and the last row brings information about flight plan destination. • The colums are (from left to right): Waypoint ident, distance to waypoint (for destination, this column shows the total trip distance), estimated time enroute (ETE), estimated time of arrival (ETA) and gross weight and remaining fuel estimations. The latter is not simulated yet due to bugs with FS GPS module, it will be revised in a future update. • The color of previous waypoint information is cyan. The color for current enroute waypoint is magenta. The last two rows of waypoint information are white. • The ETE and ETA displays format is two digits, a colon, followed by two digits. Both values are measured to the nearest minute. • Range for distance is 0 to 4,096 nautical miles (NM). When distance is less than 100 nautical miles, the distance is shown in decimal format, in range of 0.0 to 99.9 NM. • Five dashes replace the ident column when any of the data for the respective row is missing or invalid. • Four dashes replace the distance column when any of the data for the respective row is missing or invalid. • Four dashes replace the ETE and ETA columns when any of the data for the respective row is missing or invalid. • Three dashes and zero pound indication replace the fuel and GW estimations column when any of the data for calculation is missing or invalid. Control for the displays is through the DCP for PFD and CCP for MFD. Common display formats, such as the compass rose and the partial compass arc, as well as display overlays compatible with the selected display format, operate in the same manner for both the PFD and MFD. Navigation Display Parts Name Description Compass Rose/Arc The display shows a full compass rose or compass arc for the heading display. • The compass rose is a full 360° compass card. The card rotates around the center aircraft symbol, and current heading shows under the lubber line index. White open triangles mark 45 degree increments. The white triangles do not rotate with the compass card. • The compass arc shows 125°, with the current heading showing under the lubber line index. The arc also shows when FMS map mode is selected. • Tick marks show every 5° and heading numbers show every 30°. Letters replace the numbers at the 0°, 90°, 180°, and 360° heading marks to indicate the cardinal directions (N, E, S and W). Heading Readout A green three digit readout of the current heading shows in the lubber line index. If the heading data is missing or invalid, the compass rose or arc rotates to north-up, the lubber line index and digital heading readouts are removed, and the red HDG flag shows. Selected Heading Bug The heading bug is a cyan rectangular bug that shows on the compass rose or partial arc. The HDG knob on the APP sets the heading bug. A dashed cyan heading vector shows full time when the heading bug is out of view (in the partial arc or map mode). The dashed heading vector originates from the center aircraft symbol, and extends toward the selected heading. The heading vector rotates around the heading display in the same manner as the heading bug. Selected Heading Readout A three-digit readout of the selected heading shows below the attitude display on the PFD and below the EIS & Upper Information Panels on the MFD. The selected heading readout is a full-time display. The selected heading readout is removed if the heading data is missing or invalid. FMS Track/Drift Pointer The FMS drift pointer is positioned on the compass rose or partial arc at the current ground track. The drift angle is the difference between the drift pointer and the current heading. The drift pointer is a small magenta open circle. In the full compass rose format, it is displayed when TCAS overlay is active. The RANGE knob on the DCP controls the display range. • The partial compass arc serves as the range arc at the selected range. A digital readout of the selected range shows at the left end of the arc. • A full circle with the aircraft symbol at the center shows at half of the selected range, along with a digital readout of the half range. • The half range ring does not show when map mode is selected. • Display ranges available are: 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 600 NM. TCAS Range A 3 NM range ring is displayed only when TCAS overlay is active either in the PFD or MFD. The 3 NM range ring is formed by grey tick marks at the 12 cardinal clock positions. A circle (not shown) bisecting each line is the 3 NM range ring. The 3 NM range ring shows when the full range is 5, 10, or 25 NM. Course Pointer The course pointer is a single arrow that points to the selected course. The CRS left knob on the Autopilot Panel (APP) sets the pilot’s side VOR/LOC course pointer. The CRS right knob on the APP sets the copilot’s side VOR/LOC course pointer. • The CRS knob is not active when FMS is the active navigation source. • The course pointer does not show when the PPOS Map format is selected. • The tail of the course pointer is set to the inbound course of a B/C approach. • The course pointer is color-coded to indicate the active navigation source. Green indicates an onside source. Yellow indicates a cross-side source. Magenta indicates an onside FMS source. TO/FROM Indicator Pointer This indicator is a wide triangle that rotates with the course pointer. The point of the triangle indicates the aircraft is heading toward or away from the navigation source (VOR or FMS). The arrow is the same color as the course pointer. Lateral Deviation Pointer The lateral deviation bar is the same width and color as the course pointer. The bar moves left and right of the aircraft symbol to indicate the relative lateral deviation from the selected course. The lateral deviation freezes on zero position if lateral deviation data is missing or invalid. Lateral Deviation Scale The lateral deviation scale in the center of the display indicates the relative course displacement. The scale rotates around the aircraft symbol with the compass rose or partial arc. • The scale consists of two open white dots equally spaced on either side of the aircraft symbol. The scale is removed when the map mode is active or the lateral deviation bar freezes at zero position because of invalid data. • Lateral deviation scaling is as shown below: • VOR/LOC — One dot = 5° deviation • FMS — One dot = 5NM deviation. The velocity shows in a digital readout just above the wind arrow. • Wind Magnitude and Direction are sourced from the onside FMS. As there is only one FMS installed, it provides wind information to both displays. • Range for wind velocity readout is 0 to 255 knots. Active Navigation Source Display The active navigation source display consists of the navigation source annunciation, course or desired track readout, FMS waypoint identification, time to go (MFD only) and distance. • An identifying label precedes the course/desired track readout. Label nomenclature indicates whether the readout is a course or a track, as shown below. • CRS — VOR or LOC • DTK — FMS Desired Track • The FMS waypoint identifier shows up to seven characters for the waypoint name. • MFD Only: The time to go (TTG) readout source is the same as the distance source. Display format is two digits, a colon, followed by two digits. Time to go is measured to the nearest minute. • The distance readout is the distance to the active navigation source. • Distance is to the VOR/DME (or VORTAC) station when VOR is the active source. • Distance is to the runway when LOC is the active source. • Distance is to the FMS waypoint when FMS is the active source. • Range for the distance readout is 0 to 512 NM for DME, and 0 to 4,096 NM for FMS. • The navigation source display is color-coded to indicate the active navigation source. Green indicates an onside source. Magenta indicates an onside FMS source. • Blank line replace the identification readout when the VOR, Localizer or FMS waypoint identification data is missing or invalid. • Four dashes replace the time-to-go readout when ETE data (either from the FMS or DME) is missing or invalid. • Four dashes replace the distance readout when distance data is missing or invalid. TCAS Status/Mode Message The TCAS status or mode shows below the TFC legend in the TCAS data field on the right side of the MFD. Only one TCAS status or mode can show at a time. The priority order is: TCAS OFF and TA ONLY. • The message TCAS OFF shows in cyan on the PFD and MFD when the TCAS system is in standby mode and the TCAS traffic display (overlay) is selected. • The message TA ONLY shows in white on the PFD and MFD when TA ONLY mode is selected. Here, by default, all flying vehicles are displayed ether above or below the aircraft, as long as they are airborne. Elapsed Time (PFD Only) The elapsed time readout display consists of a white ET label, followed by two digits, a colon and two digits. It shows only when the pilot presses the ET button on the DCP. • If elapsed time is less than an hour, the elapsed time is measured to the nearest second. If greater than an hour, the elapsed time is measured to the nearest minute. LOC Lateral Deviation Display (PFD Only) The LOC lateral deviation display consists of a scale and pointer that shows at the bottom of the attitude display as a “cutout” section. The LOC lateral deviation display shows when LOC is the active NAV source or FMS is the active NAV source. • The deviation scale consists of two gray dots on either side of a center tick mark. • The deviation pointer is the same color as the active NAV source. The pointer is a waypoint (four-point star) shape when FMS is the NAV source, and a diamond shape when LOC is the NAV source. • Pointer movement is automatically reversed when B/C localizer logic is active. • LOC lateral deviation scaling is as shown below: • LOC — One dot ≈ 3° deviation • FMS — One dot = 5NM deviation. Bearing Pointers Two bearing pointers can show on the compass rose or partial arc format. One bearing pointer receives data from onside bearing sources, the other pointer receives data from the cross-side bearing sources. The bearing source is selected from the BRG SOURCE menu. More information here. • The sensor 1 (VOR1, FMS1, ADF1) bearing pointer is a cyan single-bar arrow. • The sensor 2 (VOR2, ADF2) bearing pointer is a white double-bar arrow. • Bearing pointer icons show as miniature representations of the bearing pointers. Icons are the same color as the bearing pointers. The bearing source icon does not show if the BRG source selection is OFF. • The bearing source annunciation (VOR, FMS, LOC) and the sensor side (1 or 2) shows with each icon. • The bearing icons show on the lower left side of the PFD and MFD. • If BRG1 is selected to FMS1 and the active NAV source is changed to FMS1, the BRG1 pointer reverts to VOR1 and vice versa. Citation CJ4X User Manual 60 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Present Position (PPOS) Map Format The FMS Present Position Map (PPOS Map) is a heading-up, present position moving map that graphically depicts the active FMS flight plan. When there is a flight plan in the FMS, the map format shows the legs of the flight plan as solid lines that connect the waypoints. FS-GPS-supplied background symbology including navaids, intersections, and airports is available for display on the PPOS Map. Geo-political boundaries, airspaces and airways are also available for display on the PPOS Map. A menu available on the MFD allows selection of the map symbology, showing the same symbols in both the PFD and MFD. The radius of the map is set with RANGE knob on the DCP. A NO FLIGHT PLAN message appears only when no route is open either via FMC (described here) or via FS Flight Planner. NOTE: Be careful with the map symbology because of performance. The more the symbology is displayed and the grater the map radius, the greater the performance impact (low frames). Citation CJ4X User Manual 61 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Terrain Overlay The Terrain overlay is an enhancement to the map. It contains a worldwide terrain elevation database. Graphical terrain elevation data is available for display on the PFD and MFD Arc and PPOS Map formats. When TERR is inactive, only water is displayed while ground is displayed in black. The graphical terrain data shows in a ± 90° arc in front of the aircraft. System messages and warnings value also show on the flight displays. Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS) is not emulated here. NOTE: Together with the map symbology, it is recommended to be careful with the terrain overlay because of performance. The grater the map radius, the greater the performance impact (low frames). Citation CJ4X User Manual 62 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) Plan Map Format The FMS plan map format is a fixed, true north-up stationary map that depicts the active FMS flight plan. When a flight plan is in the FMS, the map format shows the legs of the flight plan as solid lines that connect the waypoints. An airplane symbol shows centered on the map and is oriented to the aircraft heading and the position is updated as the flight progresses. FS-GPS-supplied background symbology is available for display, including navaids, intersections, and airports. Geo-political boundaries, airspaces and airways are also available to display in this map format. The FMS plan map shows a single full circle as the range ring. The digital readout of the range shows in a cutout of the circle, and the circle is centered on the aircraft present position. Display ranges available for the FMS plan map are: 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 600 NM. NOTE: As before, it is recommended to be careful with the map symbology because of performance. The more the symbology is displayed and the grater the map radius, the greater the performance impact (low frames) and/or delay in map updating. Citation CJ4X User Manual 63 Version 1.0 Build 1709 (September 2017) TCAS Map Format The Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) traffic symbology is available for display on the MFD. A TCAS Only format is available, along with a TCAS overlay, on the PPOS Map, the full compass rose, the partial arc and the PLAN map formats. The map radius is selected with the RANGE knob on the DCP. When the TCAS Only option is available, the CCP is used to select the TCAS Only format. The TCAS-Only Map is a heading-up 360° moving map that graphically depicts the relative bearing, range, altitude, and vertical direction of nearby transponder-equipped aircraft that reply to TCAS interrogations. When the TCAS-Only format is in view, a full-range ring and a half-range ring show. A 3 NM range ring is also in view at the shorter ranges. Heading is read at the top of the full-range ring. Azimuth marks are provided every 30° around the full-range ring. An aircraft symbol shows in the center of the map. When TCAS-Only is active, GPS or optional Terrain information, if previously in view, are removed from display. NOTE: TCAS II is not emulated here, but a basic TCAS I without Traffic Advisory (TA) callouts is brought here, using the standard Flight Simulator TrafficInfo module and GPS module. TCAS II support is under revision for future updates. The readouts consist of cabin altitude reading, cabin rate reading and pressure differential reading. • Range of the digital cabin altitude readout is 0 to +15,000 feet. • Range of the digital cabin rate readout is 0 to ±15,000 fpm. • Range of the digital pressure differential readout is -1.0 to +10.0 PSI. • The CAB ALT, RATE, DIFF, DEST ELV labels and unit labels are always white. • The cabin altitude readout is green within normal limits (0 to 14,000 ft.). • The cabin altitude readout turns red outside the normal limits. • The pressure differential readout is green within normal limits (-0.5 to +9.1 PSI). • The pressure differential readout turns red outside the normal limits. Destination Elevation Readout (Pilot MFD) A digital destination elevation readout appears at the bottom right side of the pilot MFD. • The readout is always magenta and displays the elevation of the destination field airport in the flight plan. Usually part of the pressurization system calculations. • Four yellow dashes replace the readout when no flight plan is loaded either via FMC (described here) or via FS Flight Planner. Range for the groundspeed readout is 0 to 999 knots. The GS label is always white and the actual groundspeed readout is always magenta. True Airspeed Readout (Copilot MFD) The true airspeed readout shows at the bottom of the MFD, next to the groundspeed readout. • Range for the TAS readout is 0 to 999 knots. • The TAS label is always white and the TAS readout is always green. Ram Air Temperature Readout (Both PFDs and Copilot MFD) The RAT readout shows at the bottom of the PFD and MFD. • Range for the readout is -99 to +99 °C. • A minus sign precedes a negative RAT value. • The RAT label is always white and the RAT readout is always green. Static Air Temperature Readout (Copilot MFD) The SAT readout shows at the bottom of the MFD, next to the RAT readout. • The SAT label is always white and the SAT readout is always green. Range for the readout is -99 to +99 °C. • A minus sign precedes a negative SAT value. International Standard Atmosphere Differential Readout (Copilot MFD) The ISA readout shows at the bottom right side of the MFD and indicates the temperature deviation from the standard atmosphere temperature based upon standard lapse rates. • The ISA label is always white and the ISA readout is always green. Range for the readout is -99 to +99 °C. • A minus sign precedes a negative ISA value, and a plus sign precedes a positive ISA value. No plus or minus sign shows when ISA is 0°. COM Active Frequencies & Transponder Readout (PFD) This readout shows at the bottom of the PFD and indicates the active COMM1 frequency, COMM2 frequency and transponder code (Squawk). • The COM1 label is always white and the COM1 frequency readout is always green. • The COM2 label is always white and the COM1 frequency readout is always green. • The ATC1 label is always white and the transponder code readout is always green.
