Preflight Cockpit Check

The preflight cockpit check includes removing the pitot cover and cowl plugs, ensuring all required documents are on board, and verifying that all electrical switches are off. The checklist also includes checking the fire extinguisher, emergency egress hammer, and various systems such as the alternate air and static source.

Starting Engine

Before starting the engine, pilots must hold or set the brakes, turn on the battery master switches, and ensure the strobe lights are on. The mixture should be set to full rich, and the power lever should be fully forward. The fuel pump needs to be primed for 2 seconds, and the propeller area must be clear before starting the engine.

Before Each Takeoff

Prior to takeoff, pilots must confirm the communication radio is set to the tower or CTAF, ensure the autopilot is disconnected, and check that flight controls are free and correct. The flaps should be set to 50%, and the fuel quantity must be confirmed. The transponder should be set to the assigned code.

Climb

During the climb phase, the flaps should be retracted after clearing obstacles and achieving an airspeed greater than 80 KIAS. The target climb airspeed is between 110-120 KIAS, and the power lever should be set to 2500 RPM.

Normal Landing

For a normal landing, the airspeed should be less than 120 KIAS before entering the pattern. The mixture should be set to rich or adjusted for altitude, and the flaps should be set to 50% under 120 KIAS and 100% under 100 KIAS.

Safety notes

  • Verify that the fuel pump is off after engine start unless required for hot conditions.
