He previously received training at both DA-C and Technify / Continental (when it was under the Thielert name brand). 3 Good service provider is busy, so the early I book (more than 1 month in advance) the better it is. 4 I am the provider. 5 Times above are for an annual, lead time depends on scope & complexity 6 For annual, it is more like a month. 7 I picked the DSC based on availability to schedule more than distance. There are DSCs closer to me that are not interested in working on my plane. I was caught out by this in purchasing this plane. 8 I don't know since I schedule next year's when I complete this year. I know they are very busy. 9 My preferred DSC was selected based on typical lead time. There is a DSC that is less than 75NM, but they don't seem to want my business. 10 Scheduled maintenance is not the issue, waiting on parts is a major pain. Seems nothing is readily available from the factory when most needed. 11 Often less than 2 weeks, depending on workload at the service center. 12 Owner/IA 13 It Brett Zefting at Zefting Aviation at KBLI (Bellingham, WA) - he's well connected to Diamond but not an official service center. 14 I always schedule the annual on the first Monday of Air Venture at Oshkosh, and then fly to Air Venture 15 Normally less than a week and sometimes even the same day. Great maintenance team! 16 Often took me on the fly to fix warranty issues 17 this is for oil change type service. For annual, the lead time is a couple of months 18 DAI GmbH at EDFE is absolutely first class, providing exceptional service. 19 One year for an annual 20 I feel this holds true for most visits, however MSB's are obviously parts dependent. 21 My service provider Coastal Valley (KSMX) is busy, but works hard to fit me in. They also finish pretty much on predicted times. I schedule my Annual Inspections 6+ months in advance. 22 I work with him on the airplane so I can get it in as soon as I need. 23 I do my own maintenance except for avionocs ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 13 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 1.67% 4 12.08% 29 84.58% 203 1.67% 4 0.00% 0 Q7 How has this lead time changed over the past 12-18 months Answered: 240 Skipped: 35 TOTAL 240 # WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE CAUSED THIS CHANGE? 1 N/A 444 29 29 29 203 203 203 444 0 100 200 300 400 500 Much worse / much longer Worse / longer About the same Better / shorter Much better / much shorter ANSWER CHOICES RESPONSES Much worse / much longer Worse / longer About the same Better / shorter Much better / much shorter ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 14 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 2 Lack of mechanics. 3 Shift to focusing on DA42 and DA62 with higher revenue potential 4 Engine inspections 5 Slight delay Because of unscheduled maintenance and shortage of spares 6 Slightly better parts availability 7 This is my first annual. 8 Not sure I am a new owner 9 I have owned the aircraft for 6 months 10 AD backed it all up!!!! 11 Planes breaking down and AD's 12 Lack of a&p mechanics 13 N/A 14 High demand, MSB's 15 Unsure 16 Biden 17 Not enough qualified mechanics ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 15 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 25.60% 64 34.80% 87 24.40% 61 13.20% 33 2.00% 5 Q8 How satisfied are you with this scheduling lead time? Once in great awhile the DSC has the all needed parts in stock, though most of the time they needed to be ordered by DSC, then shipped from Canada to California and then finally to me in Washington State. The situation is compounded (both in price and lead time) when the parts have to be shipped out of Austria. 4 Cylinders 5 Bell cranks, prop overhaul. 95 95 95 150 150 150 0 20 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 180 200 Yes No ANSWER CHOICES RESPONSES Yes No ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 17 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 6 There was a pretty long list of parts for my annual that were not available for over two months. 7 Flywheel 8 Propeller Overhaul (before planned TBO, due to oil leakage): about 5-6 weeks delay (MT-Propeller, scimitar 3 blade propeller for DA40 NG). 9 Powerflow exhaust parts. Hurricane 10 Back seat back. Still waiting after 3 months. Aircraft reduced to 3-seater. 11 Everything. Lately I needed 2 cylinder heads, and 1 turbocharger. It was a 4-6 week lead time for all parts, when I was AOG! 12 TKS panel 13 Insulation for the fuel line MSB Inverter for the instrument light 14 Engine parts including fuel injectors. 15 Alternator support bracket, nose gear fork. 16 Fuel tank hoses 17 The piston change out took a very long time with AeroTech 18 Two issues in 2024: A) July 2024 - 4 weeks to replace the fuel transfer pump B) December 2024 - 4 to 6 weeks for fuel injector replacements 19 Seat belt 20 AmSafe inflator assembly 21 Parts for AMsafe Seatbelts 22 Flywheel. 23 Prop gov, fuel transfer pumps, oil (diesel ultra) not available, fuel filter / oil filters no available. It’s overall not a good experience 24 New airplane so haven't had "scheduled" maintenance yet. 25 Engine replacement, peripheral engine partd 26 fuel injectors -2 mo delay last year 27 Engine parts 28 No also requires explanation, my service center keeps spare parts and anticipates requirements and therefore orders to Diamond and other suppliers. It is not perfect but it is reasonable. In addition, my plane has not had abnormal incidents. A friend who lost the rear DA42 door in flight had to wait 6 months for a replacement. 29 AmSafe seat belts ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 18 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 30 Pistons 31 Turbo for Austro engine 32 DA50RG nose gear known issue fix 33 Engine needed to be replaced 34 50 hour inspection on the DA62 piston heads. Service center had to wait at least 3 weeks for the kit to run the inspection. Another was my A/C alternator went bad and after 3 weeks of waiting they couldn’t even get one shipped out so I just decided on flying the plane without the A/C until they can finally get one. 35 Fuel injectors, as part of the now-required piston inspections 36 First annual coming up next month so... 37 Key Parts are in Canada or worse in austria 38 Shortage and lead time for spares 39 Our Service Centre keeps adequate stock and avoids any delays. 40 Ecu by DA 50 5 Week waiting in Switzerland Tire 5 Day for repair in Ottawa now 41 Fuel Probes, Engine Shock Mounts, Cylinder Heads and associated parts. 42 DA20 rudder cables took 5 months, delaying completion of annual 2022 43 Aux pumps 44 Austrop E4B engine 45 Engine parts from Continental for a DA40-D (TDI) 46 Prop governor, door seal, brake master cylinder 47 Engine, alternator 48 Pistons, AC alternator, water pump 49 Many times - I do not remember all but at least : Battery, pitot heat resistance, brake cable, inner tube, screw of canopy . I would say that there is no stock at all. The maintenance provider say to me that "having stock is too much expensive" (it maintain about 12 DA40 and 3 DA42). They maintain about a hundred of piston aircraft (Robin, Piper, etc..) 50 Fuel sensors, auto pilot gyro, engine overhaul (lycoming), prop overhaul Hartzell 51 Flap mechanical parts were not in stock, had to be fabricated. 52 Issue with cylinder kits for borescope inspection and air conditioning unit. The two issues my aircraft has experienced and both had delays in parts. Still waiting on air conditioner, going on week 4 they said it could be up to 6 weeks! 53 seat belt activator, carbon monoxide detector 54 Engine replacement ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 19 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 55 DA20 Fuel Manifold 56 Headphone jack panel and go-around buttons not in stock and needed to be ordered. 57 NLG Leg (P/N D41-3223-10-00; see AD 2024-19-08) 58 Some parts took longer than expected to be received from the factory 59 Had a water pump go out right after the 2 year warranty went out. There was a 12 week lead time for a new pump. The maintenance shop had one on another plane and made the switch. 60 MSB/AD - had to wait for 2 months to get the kit for the required inspection 61 lack of fuel probes, Prop governor, and lack of new engines or the inability for Diamond to allow overhauls. The piston issue is big issue for me. 6mo. waiting for even word when I'll get engines. Won;t be surprised if my 42NG doesn't fly for a year. Awful. 62 Engines 63 Dont remember at this time, maybe a filter of some kind. Service center usually solve this by releasing the plane for flight and when parts arrive they do the change with very little delay. 64 Need a bracket to install new taxi/landing light. Can't get the bracket 65 Not able to obtain parts from Diamond. Unable to get the parts through Customs 66 No recent parts orders placed 67 Orders through parts distributor for a engine rebuild. It as a month to two months out for a few parts. The authorize Diamond maintenance does not work on rotax. 68 LH Canopy side scoop window. 69 Initial Torx bolts for injectors were on back order 70 Engine parts / AUSTRO or GARMIN parts waiting on warranty issues 71 Recent injector MSB for my DA40 NG - grrrrrrr 72 Air bags 73 Parts for the two latest engine ADs. Once by putting pressure on Diamond customer service they cannibalized an engine to provide some engine sensors. I flew to the factory from the DSC to pick them up and bring them to be install on my aircraft. 74 AMSafe seat belts parts 75 AD borescope kit. 76 Engine replacement 77 Broken Door, Diamond was absolutely NO help I’ve had it repaired but could not get even a response from Diamond and neither could the distributor. 78 Fuel tank interconnect hoses (8 year item), some engine hoses (8 year item) ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 20 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 79 obtaining parts from Diamond is extremely difficult. Long delays. Once my mechanic has the part, no problem getting it installed. 80 Oil Filter shortages, however only briefly. 81 Oil pressure sender 82 rear spar by the back seats 83 New block for right engine that is on order that should be a warranty replacement as the coolant overflow valve has been replaced 5 times (6 different valves) and it still leaks. I had to replace the pistons as required by the first AD, but they are with the set that requires horoscope inspection every 50 hours as fully compliant pistons are in high demand or not yet available. Between that and the previous 50 hour oil change requirement, I estimate 10 total round trips to the mx base and 6-8 weeks of downtime by the time this is resolved. 3 It was quite expensive though, not covered under warranty, and the replacement for the offending Diamond part doesn't seem to have been discounted in any way, which was frustrating. 4 The first piston inspection was quick. Now I’m on the second inspection and a stuck injector has grounded my plane indefinitely. These engines aren’t designed to remove the injectors every 50 hours. 5 Engine Boroscope at 100 hrs is a big issue. 6 ECU 5 week 7 We had an inflight engine failure requiring a replacement of the engine. Our service center was able to arrange an engine within 3 weeks, but since they are off-site, it took another month to get it installed. 8 Still ongoing with the DA40 NG piston issues 9 Austro Engines with "new" crankshaft bolts that were out of serviceable spec (6 weeks grounded due to lack of "new" bolts availability). Also, grounded for 1 week due to bore scope of engines (DA 42 NG) due to potential cracking of pistons on essentially new engines (<200 hours). Composite sometimes has low inertia which can cause rougher shutdowns but it also has better erosion capability if it has a stainless steel leading edge. Both need infinite fatigue life. 52 Lighter 53 Less vulnerable, I think. 54 I'd prefer a non-wood composite but my current propeller is a wood-based composite blade. Missed the Bahamas one. 23 Advocating for getting that 50 hour inspection lifted on the engine!!! 24 DPA should connect more directly with the existing diamondaviators.net forum rather than starting its own. DPA should also eliminate any barriers (e.g., the required annual membership fee?) that are preventing existing DAN members from joining and being involved with DPA. Diamond owners are such a small community and it is to everyone's advantage to get more Diamond owners interacting and collaborating with each other. 25 Why would we have a new forum when DAN works VERY well?! Answered: 59 Skipped: 216 # RESPONSES 1 More regular article production 2 DON'T KNOW IT WELL ENOUGH 3 Roll DAN into DPA, as the group has discussed before. 4 Content is key. 5 Help have parts availablity stateside 6 I just don't quite understand what value DPA would provide me. I'd be happy to become a member, but I just don't understand why I'd want to. 7 nothing seems to happen with this group; don't see why it exists given far more active older Diamond Aviators Group. 8 A place for discussion (Forum, Discord, Slack ...) 9 Share most information on Diamond Aircraft and Ownership on a public web site. 10 Improve your marketing 11 Replace the DAN forum with a new and improved forum. 12 Not a website user, so cannot comment. 13 New owner so still learning about DPA. 14 Perhaps more articles on owner-maintenace, tips and tricks 15 More frequent content updates. Increased engagement with Diamond, Inc. (I realize this is difficult) 16 I don't know 17 I subscribed for a while but found the content on the web site uninteresting. I find DAN to be more interactive and useful. We don't need two competing organizations, DPA and DAN should figure out a way to work together. 18 keep the good work you are doing!! 19 More articles 20 More technical content & message boards 21 Additional content is necessary to establish a compelling reason for visiting the website. Suggest merging with of DAN into ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 90 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey DPA. Seems like a single owners group would be best. 33 Videos, Forum 34 I don't believe I ever used it. 35 Either drop your membership price to something reasonable (say $12/yr) or offer at least half of the value of what DAN provides for voluntary contributions (I give them $25/yr). 36 I like all the resources. Consider restricting membership to Diamond aircraft owners/operators and avoid having the "Diamond detractors" who don't even own a Diamond that have established themselves on the DAN (e.g. Krellis). 50 Keep a spreadsheet of Diamond (and Garmin) "promises" and their current status. 51 I haven't received any news or message in the last 15 months. the website is not well updated with interesting news about diamond owners and planes. 52 Find a way to host informational videos. 53 A Great Website. Answered: 47 Skipped: 228 # RESPONSES 1 Thanks for the survey! 2 DIAMOND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY, VERY POOR. 3 Thank you Paul for all your GREAT work on this current survey!!! Happy New Year, Scott PS - I waited until the just before the 1/10/25 deadline to respond because I wanted to provide DPA with the most current information regarding my experiences, to date, with this rear door MSB. 4 Thank you for gathering this information. I look forward to learning from the results. Best regards, Patrick 5 Engage in dialogue with Diamond Aircraft (US, EU and China) to improve communication, customer and warranty support, and upgrade paths for owners and operators of Diamond Aircraft. 6 Thanks for doing this! 7 Impact of Austro engine problems on sentiment, I was thinking of getting a DA62 once I finish recovering my PPL-MEIR certificate, now I'm looking at other options as well. 8 Would love to see updates about MSBs/ADs as they apply to Diamonds. Also, tips/tricks/care and feeding of Diamonds. Thanks for this survey and I look forward to seeing the results. 9 Nope 10 G1000 upgrade question is complicated. In principle I would want to upgrade to G1000NXi but since I could also use a new interior, other upgrades, etc. it might be better to buy a new(er) airplane instead. 11 no 12 Sign me up for an AP offering for non-AP planes. I'm willing to lend my plane to the AP manufacturer in order to support the certification efforts if that can help. 13 On my DA42 I had an AHRS failure while on IFR. The standard AH is an outdated backup solution. When will Diamond allow the installation of a GI 275 alternative? I am waiting for an STC... 14 I appreciate the efforts of the those who have volunteered to bring this association to life. 15 Nope 16 I just sold the plane ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 93 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 17 I use AOPA as a primary source of technical information on the DA-40. Submit Diamond stories to their monthly magazine. 18 None. 19 Would love to know how others are finding dealing the AD for the pistons. 20 I wish where there a question about how I felt about DAI's communication on issues. DAI has generally been poor at communication. Most of the information from the factory seems to come from one particular sales partner posting on the DAN. Whether those statements are factual and represent DAI is debatable. I continue to wait on updates to the G1000 NXi software that continue to be promised but never deliver. Now, I am waiting on a resolution to an invasive 50hr inspection AD for the AE300 without any explicit communication from the factory. Lack of communication undermines the future utility and value of the aircraft, as well as the brand going forward. I wish there was a questions whether I was happy with my plane and whether I would buy it again and whether I am in the market to sell it, etc. It's unlikely that the DA40 will be my last plane, but it's increasingly likely to be my last Diamond. 21 Pl take up the Austro Engine problem of Boroscope inspection with the Manufacturer and they should come up with a one time solution. 22 I’ll menial the serial number when I am back home. Currently cruising around NZ 23 Would like to see a STC from Garmin for GFC 500 in the DA40 24 Appreciate the opportunity to participate 25 Thank you very for all what you do . There is a big big issue about changing G1000 to Nxi and also to be able to buy the Wass compoant to replace the old one 26 Thanks for representing us in a world where change comes only from the resilient fight 27 No 28 Great that you are doing the survey. It’s important 29 I hope additional Diamond Authorized maintenance facilities open in the Southeast USA. 30 Just get Diamond back to the known engine reliability it had with Mercedes engines 31 I love these planes but the lack of support and information has dissuaded me buying a new 42-Vi.. I'm selling one DA42NG and keeping the other DA42NG only because I can't since I'm waiting now 6mo for engines. 32 Historically I have appreciated periodic access to Diamond's technical reps, who have been uniformly excellent. This helped compensate for the *many* things that are frustrating about owning a Diamond. But with a recent issue I discovered that Diamond now shuns direct contact and is forcing everything through service centers. Which is their choice. But I no longer recommend Diamond aircraft to people when they ask about my airplane. The good/bad balance no longer works for me. 33 As a steam gauge DA40 owner my No 1 priority is to broaden the types of new avionics that are STCed for my airframe. It's ridiculous that a Cessna 172 can have a Dynon PFD or Garmin G5 or a Garmin GFC500 autopilot and a steam gauge DA40 cannot. It can't simply be numbers of airframes because there are small numbers of rare aircraft that are nonetheless on the AMLs for these avionics. It can't simply composite materials because the DA40 is certified for lightning protection. Finally, how hard can it be for Diamond to make available to DA40-180's identical things for other models such as a removable co- pilot stick or the increased gross weight of the DA40NG? ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 94 of 95 Diamond Pilots Association 2024 Owner Survey 34 Suggest to Diamond to have a Support person avaliable for individual owners. Right now it has been changed to only Diamond Partners. There are many questions the partners don't know the answers. 35 Provide parts domestically that are more readily available 36 Thank you for doing this -- as a DA40 NG owner I really appreciate it! 37 Encourage Continental to provide more engine training in Australia 38 I'm pretty disappointed that Diamond has never followed through with the promised upgrades for legacy G1000 to G1000 NXi. 39 Thanks for doing this work. Great airplanes, but would love to see more support and communication directly from the manufacturer. 40 Nope. happy Flying!! 41 It's a good survey. Thanks for taking the time to send it out. 42 Everyone who contributes to this survey should receive the results regardless whether they are a member of DPA or not. 43 Keep up the good work advocating for owners and pilots. 44 Keep up the good work. Don't reinvent DAN (or is there something broken or limiting that I don't know about?)_ 45 Less survey, more contents and info useful for Diamond pilots. Thanks 46 More interest in un-leaded fuels. 47 Nope ©2025 Diamond Pilots Association Page 95 of 95
