Engine Run-Up

The engine run-up procedure includes setting the parking brake, selecting the fullest fuel tank, adjusting the mixture to rich, and ensuring the propeller is full forward. The throttle should be set to 1700 RPM, with checks for magneto drop (maximum 125 RPM and 50 RPM difference) and carburetor heat drop (maximum 150 RPM). Propeller cycling is also required, with a maximum drop of 500 RPM.

Starting Engine

Before starting the engine, ensure the carburetor heat is cold/off, cowl flaps are open, and the propeller is full forward. The mixture should be full rich, and the fuel boost pump switch should be turned on. After checking fuel pressure, the throttle should be primed based on temperature (3x for hot, 4x for cold) and opened 1/4 inch. The magneto switch is then turned to start.

Preflight Inspection

The preflight inspection is divided into cabin and exterior checks. Cabin checks include ensuring the parking brake is released, avionics are off, and fuel quantities are checked. Exterior checks cover the baggage compartment, wings, nose section, and empennage, ensuring all components are secure and functioning properly.

Normal Takeoff

During normal takeoff, the throttle should be fully opened, and power should be checked at 2700 RPM. The aircraft should rotate at speeds between 65-75 MPH, and climb speed should be maintained at 96 MPH (105 MPH for best performance). Flaps should be retracted at 400 feet AGL.
