Operation A. The overall operation of the CJ Aviation Replacement Fuel Selector is the same as the current OEM Fuel Selector. The objective of the Fuel Selector is the same, to allow selection of engine fuel from specific fuel tanks. CJ Aviation COMPONENT INSTALLATION MANUAL FS30-T6CJ 26-60-13 Page 201 10/16/2012 1. General A. This section contains Instructions for the installation of the Fuel Selector Valve. 1. Start by removing the cover panel on the aircraft to reveal the current fuel valve. Figure 1, depicts the location on the aircraft were the valve resides. This cover is over the aileron pulleys that direct the cables to the torque tube. Figure 1 – Valve Access Location Fuel Selector and Drain Cock Fuel Tank Sump Doors CJ Aviation COMPONENT INSTALLATION MANUAL FS30-T6CJ 26-60-13 202 10/16/2012 2. Drain all fuel from the aircraft. This can be accomplished by draining both fuel sumps with the drain valves on the bottom of the fuel valve fitting. 3. Remove fuel lines from fuel valve. Right tank fuel line can be accessed through access hole previously removed right of fuel valve, See Figure 2 Figure 2 – Installed Valve Location 4. Remove both cotter pins in the end of the fuel valve fork. 5. Remove the hardware mounting holding the fuel valve mounting bracket, from the aircraft. 6. Remove valve and mounting bracket from the aircraft. 7. On the bench, remove the mounting bracket from the fuel valve. Note: Fittings may need to be removed to complete this tack. Fuel Lines Valve Fork Selector Shaft CJ Aviation COMPONENT INSTALLATION MANUAL FS30-T6CJ 26-60-13 203 10/16/2012 8. Reinstall the fuel valve fittings on the CJ Aviation Replacement Fuel Selector Valve. Special care should be taken to assure that the fittings are installed in the proper port on the Replacement Fuel Selector Valve and the fittings are clocked in the respective angles. 9. Reinstall the valve mounting bracket to the Replacement Fuel Selector Valve. The step may need to be incorporated with Step 8, depending on the type of fittings installed on the Fuel Selector Valve. Figure 3 – CJ Aviation Replacement Fuel Selector Valve 10. In the cockpit, set the fuel selector indicator to a specific fuel tank location and note that location. Turn the Replacement Fuel Selector Valve to open to the corresponding port noted at the beginning of the step. Note: At this time check the fuel valve selector shaft, see Figure 2, coming down from the cockpit to turn the selector valve. One (1) tab on the end of the shaft is wider than the opposite side. Select the correct Fork supplied with the CJ Aviation Replacement Fuel Selector Valve to match the fork required. Figure 4 – CJ Aviation Supplied Fork(s) CJ Aviation COMPONENT INSTALLATION MANUAL FS30-T6CJ 26-60-13 204 10/16/2012 11. Install the CJ Aviation Replacement Fuel Selector Valve in the aircraft. Take special care to ensure that the Replacement Fuel Selector Valve is installed in the aircraft using the mounting hardware removed in Step 5. 12. Install new cotter pins in the end of the fuel valve Fork. 13. Fill the fuel tanks and check Replacement Fuel Selector Valve and fuel lines for leaks and valve for proper operation. If leaks are detected review all the above steps and verify that all connection(s) are properly torqued tight. 14. As a final on ground check: Start the aircraft and check the Replacement Fuel Selector Valve for smooth operation. Fuel pressure will drop to zero (0) when selecting “Off” while the engine is in operation. It is also important to check that fuel does not drain from the Replacement Fuel Sector Valve low point drain when the valve is selected to the “Off” position. Fuel should drain when either fuel tank is selected. 2. Fuel System Diagram A. The reference diagram shown in Figure 5 depicts the fuel system typical for this aircraft.
