This document stipulates a permissible method of restricting air flow through the oil cooler to increase oil temperatures. TYPE OF MAINTENANCE Low. MINIMUM LEVEL OF CERTIFICATION Pilot / Operator. LABOR REQUIRED: Approximately 0.5 hour. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Remove the top cowl of the aircraft in accordance with section 5.7.9 of the maintenance manual. 2. Locate the oil cooler on the top left of the engine/baffle assembly. 3. Reference Table 1 for applicable coverage of the oil cooler in relation to the expected operating temperatures: Expected Operating Temperature: Percentage of Oil Cooler Surface Area to Cover < 0°F 67% 0°F – 20°F 50% 20°F – 50°F 33% > 50°F N/A Table 1. Apply speed tape (such as 3M Mfr#7100053741) in a vertical direction to cover the applicable oil cooler surface area. Reference Figure 1 for a typical installation. 5. Reinstall cowl in accordance with 5.7.9 of the maintenance manual. Note: This method has been tested and shown to provide good results. Be aware that results will vary depending on environmental factors and use case. Experimentation may be required by the operator to obtain the best results. A healthy steady state oil temperature should be between 180°F – 200°F. Adjust as necessary. Figure 1.
