SUBJECT: MARKING OF TS0·C72b INDIVIDUAL FLCY.CATION DEVICES
1. PURPOSE. This circular outlines acceptable methods for marking individual flotation devices which also serve as seat cushions.
2. CANCELLATICN. Advisory Circular 20-56, dated 1/19/68, is cancelled.
3. REFERENCE REGULATIONS. Technical Standard Order C72b, Federal Aviation Regulations 25.1415(e) and 121.34D(a).
4. DISCUSSION. One type of individual flotation device consists of a basic cushion with a muslin cover contained in an upholstery slipcover.
Straps are attached to the upholstery slipcover by which the user retains the device in the water. The TSO marking, which includes the date of manufacture, is either attached to this slipcover, the basic device, or the muslin cover.
5. ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF CCMPLIANCE. In the case of TS0-C72b individual flotation devices with removable slipcovers such as described above, the TSO marking may be applied to the muslin cover or basic device itself, with a notation identifying the type of cover with which it used or the TSO marking may be applied directly to the upholstery slipcover.
