2. CANCELIATION. "AC 20-67A, Airborne VHF Carrnunicatioo System Installations, dated October l 7, 1972, is cancelled.

Airborne VHF crnmunications systems and equipnent have becane rrore carplex over the last several years, usin:J digital data applications and cx:mputeriza:1 equiprrent and ccntrol. There has also been an increase in the use of select calli03 arrl digital data link applications, in addition to mandatory air traffic oontrol air-to-grouni voice caamunicatirn. To meet these develq:ments, the Radio Technical Camti.ssion for Aerooautics (Rlt:A) OC-148 carmi.ttee has presented recarmen:lations to cover performance a.rrl ccmpatibility for the wider variety of VHF cx:mnunications equiprrent being installed. Existing technical starrlard order design stan:lards for VHF ccmnunications equiμnent and for substitute equiprrent CIC 20-4Ll\, Substitute Technical Standard ·order Aircraft Equipnent> are still awlicable for specific systems and should be referre:i to for guidance.
5. ACCEPTABLE MFANS OF CTNPLIAOCE. An acceptable means of carpliance with the regulatioos referencai in paragraμ-1 3, as they ar;ply to the functicni03 of airborne VHF cannunications equipm::mt providai for use urder IFR corx:litions, is to satisfy the criteria set forth in Sectirn 3 of R'ICA Document 00-186, ''Minimum Operational Perfornance Standards for Airborne Radio Ccmnunications Equipnent Operating Within the Radio Frequency Range .
