Aircraft parts must be approved by the FAA prior to installation on U.S. type certified aircraft. Only the FAA needs to approve aircraft parts. Approval by the OEM, the aircraft manufacturer or parts distributors is not required. Parts can be approved as part of the Type Certification, if it’s on the airplane when the airplane is approved, the part is approved if purchased from the aircraft manufacturer.1 Parts can also be approved through PMA, (Parts Manufacturing Approval), these are parts that are manufactured by a company with parts manufacturing approval and subsequently added to that company’s approval list as a supple- ment. Parts manufactured by the OEM sold through any outlet other than the aircraft manufacturer are PMA’d prior to distribution. A common myth: I don’t buy PMA parts. I buy OEM parts from my local distributor”. This is not necessarily true, these parts are most likely PMA’d , unless they are TSO’s (which have no aircraft eligibility) or standard parts. How are PMA parts approved? Per F.A.R. 21.303: FAA-PMA parts must meet FAA airworthiness requirements. This can be proved through test and computation, or more simply – prove that your part works, fits, and performs as well as or better than the OEM. You can also obtain PMA through identicality (this is how the OEM receives their PMA) by showing that your part is identical in every manner to one already approved. No additional testing is needed for this method. Rapco has never received PMA through identicality; we have earned every one of our PMA’s through test and computation. FAA-PMA is the number one method of aircraft parts approval. 1 . Unless the T.C. holder authorizes drop ship authority to the subcontractor for each part. Certified repair stations can perform overhauls or repairs on any aircraft component for which they have approved technical data. The data can come from a manufacturer supplied maintenance or overhaul manual, or process specification holder supplied maintenance or overhaul manual. Rapco has FAA approved P.S. (process specification) overhauls for many aircraft components including vacuum pumps, fuel pumps, etc… In fact, we have overhauled over 140,000 vacuum pumps through our FAA approved P.S. As with PMA’s, no OEM approval is required, nor is aircraft manufacturer approval required. With many of our P.S. overhauls, we replace and most times upgrade components with our own PMA parts to keep costs low and increase performance. Rapco FAA-PMA parts and FAA approved P.S. overhauls will save you and your customer money. High quality replacement aircraft parts for less money.... It’s what we do. Rapco now offers all new FAA-PMA approved vacuum pump models. We took our twenty years of overhaul experi- ence and made a better vacuum pump. The new vacuum pump has significant advancements which include: a wear port to determine vane wear, cooling fins to reduce temperature and increase life, coated cavity to reduce friction, laser precise ports to provide unmatched airflow, and a reconfigured rotor with optimized vane slots for maximum pump life to name a few. All new and overhauled pumps use our new beveled rotor that allows small particles to pass through without destroying the pump. Rapco also offers cooling shrouds for both large and small vacuum pumps to reduce operating temperatures and prolong pump life. Regulators and fittings are a new addition to the product line. Rapco has overhauled over 140,000 vacuum pumps with our exclusive Process Specification Overhaul proce- dure. We have modified and upgraded our FAA ap- proved overhaul procedure over the years to incorporate new technology and our product improvements. Rapco is the number one overhauler of vacuum pumps. We offer one of the best warranties in the industry. Many new advancements from our new pump are also being incorporated into our overhauls. Each new vacuum pump is equipped with the above vane measuring system, S.M.A.R.T. Stick. Rapco continues the tradition of offering the aviation consumer a low-cost, high quality replacement part with our fine line of pneumatic filters, fuel filters, hydraulic filters, and exhaust gaskets. Many models of gaskets are available in “Blow-Proof” versions for added durability. As with all of Rapco’s products, each filter and gasket is warranteed the same as the OEM and FAA-PMA approved. PT-6 100 Hour inspection kits are complete, convenient and easy to use. Rapco Fleet Support offers FAA-Approved overhauled Airborne and Dukes fuel pumps. Each pump is overhauled in accordance with our FAA approved process specification over- haul. In each case, we are replacing all critical components with new FAA-PMA parts or re-machining items to meet our stringent process specification. In some cases, our overhaul has been improved upon signifi- cantly enough to actually outperform a new pump. With our computerized balanced armatures or proprietary seals to prevent leaking, each pump overhauled is actually better than new. Each overhauled pump has our new improved design armature. Each armature is computer balanced. Rapco has manufactured FAA-PMA approved brake linings, rivets and discs since 1985. We have since dramatically increased our line of brake discs. Rapco now offers 83 brake discs as direct replacement for Cleve- land on over a thousand different aircraft. No other aftermarket manufacturer makes even half as many as Rapco. As with all Rapco products, our discs are designed to exceed OEM performance standards and airworthiness requirements. Each brake disc is 100% machined from a forge. This technique makes a significantly stronger disc than the outdated two piece construction. Non-OEM manufacturers need to make their product better than OEM to have a chance in selling to the discriminating buyer. For that reason, we have pioneered advancements in brake linings. Our latest generation of lining material lasts longer than our competition with no additional disc wear. Our new ‘wear-

limit indicator’ found on our non-asbestos organic linings (i.e. RA66-105 which replaces the popular Cleveland 66-105) makes wear determination simple and expedient. In fact, some flight schools make checking our wear limit indicator a part of pre-flight. As a convenience to operators, we sell brake kits that have the exact number of linings and rivets needed to perform service on individual aircraft. We also offer brake installation tools that dramatically reduce error and speed installation. Rapco will continue searching for innovative ways to manufacture brake components, lower operator cost, and ease installation and inspection. Each brake disc is 100% machined for increased strength and integrity Rapco got its start in business manufacturing replacement de-ice lead harnesses. We have expanded this critical product line to include: brushes, brush modules, brush modular assemblies, hub extenders, leads, propeller boots and Bootsaver® repair kit for wing and propeller boots. Our FAA-PMA approved products fit Hartzell and McCauley propeller systems. All of our products are inventoried at our facility to allow for “Just-In-Time” delivery. Rapco Fleet Support, Inc. manufactures FAA-PMA approved aircraft brake components. RFS manufac- tures brake components for the following aircraft: Hawker 800 series, Cessna Citation I & II, Beech 1900, B99, EMB-120, EMB-120ER & EMB-120RT, Metroliner and Heavy Metro, Jetstream J-31 , Learjet, King Air, regular and high float, with many more to come. Successful, continued operation of any aircraft fleet relies on adherence to tight margins. For over 10 years, RFS has helped regional and corporate operators generate a profit by dramatically reducing their brake costs. Since our brakes are FAA-PMA approved and fully guar- anteed, operator savings have not come at an expense. The FAA requires manufacturers seeking PMA to establish an approved test procedure before conforming the part, testing, and submitting data for approval. When RFS establishes a test plan to be approved by the FAA, we always set our criteria to exceed the OEM performance standards and airworthiness requirements. We design a better brake, then we build a better brake. We prove it to the FAA, the approving authority, and offer it for sale to operators for less money. The next time you need replacement brake parts, go with the best, not the biggest. Machining pads at our facility “Do Not Move Prop” warning banners Pitot Tube covers and Wicktectors “For Sale” banners At Rapco, our first consideration is quality. Our FAA-PMA approved replacement aircraft parts are manufactured to meet OR exceed the original manufacturers’ design and performance standards. We then subject them to meticulous quality control testing and inspection procedures. Years of experience, the latest technology and low overhead enable us to produce a broad range of replacement parts that meet the rigid FAA standards for safety and performance at the lowest possible cost. We pass these savings on to you. Lower price is not the only RAPCO advantage. Because we are not as big as the OEM, in addition to our savings, we can offer some things they cannot: Flexibility and Timing. Rapco, Inc. has become one of the industry leaders in innovative improvements to traditional designs. Pneumatic Standby Systems: In the mid 1980’s Rapco designed and built a completely automatic standby instrument pneumatic system for the Beechcraft Bonanza. The only one in existence today that does not have to be selected “on” by the pilot. It incorporates an engine driven electromagnetic clutch drive system that engages upon failure of the primary vacuum pump. New Vacuum Pumps: Rapco then went on to design and build NEW FAA Approved vacuum pumps that have had several innovative improvements to include a beveled internal rotor that is less susceptible to foreign particle damage from the ingestion of excess carbon or dirt. Additionally, Rapco designed a new rotor cavity that has an advanced Mil. Spec. coating to provide optimum pump life and reduced vane wear. The new Rapco design also has cooling fins machined into it providing better overall cooling and extended service life. Rapco now builds a New RA215CC – RA216CW vacuum pump and a new RA441CC – RA442CW series pumps that have a wear port built into the top of the pump so that it is easily accessed by the maintenance technician. This port along with it’s S.M.A.R.T. Stick indicator (S.M.A.R.T. : Scheduled Maintenance At Regulated Times) takes the guess work out of vacuum pump life left on the pump. New Brake Linings: Rapco, Inc. is the only company in the aviation industry to mold a Wear indicator into the side of their brake lining. Similar to autos or motorcycles, the aircraft owner can now check the wear that is left on his brake lining. The indicator is a small semi-circular impression in the side lining allowing for visual inspection from the side of the brake assembly. Rapco’s new generation lining is made from a specialized composite high temperature Kevlar Fiber that bonds the combination of steel, copper and brass together making a improved friction material that not only provides excellent stopping but also extends the wear life of the brake discs. New Nickel Brake Discs: Rapco is an industry leader in forged steel brake discs that are a FAA Direct replacement disc for the Cleveland and McCauley originals. Rapco uses a heat treated one-piece forged design instead of a welded or cast disc. This provides for much stronger and better heat dissipation, thus reducing excessive lining wear. The one-piece forged design eliminates the corrosion cracking that occurs with the welded original discs and is 4 times stronger. As a corrosion preventative Rapco electroless nickel plates the disc to keep any rust from forming and corroding the wheel half assembly. This helps extend the overall life of the wheel halves. As we compared discs in the market place Rapco’s were not only better than the original welded discs but they were considerably less expensive. The Future Rapco, Inc. is continuing to develop further innovations in general aviation corporate and commuter after market parts. Rapco is currently FAA Approving more products in the pneumatic and propeller de-ice areas. Removed the cap screw toward top center portion of pump with a 5/32 Allen wrench to open inspection port. 2. Make sure magnetos are grounded and off. While looking in the inspec- tion port with a flashlight, have the prop turned backwards to align the vane slot in the carbon rotor with the inspection port. Always use extreme caution when moving the propeller. C. If the top of the collar touches the handle of the Stick, the pump is at wear limits and should be replaced. A dry air pump’s life span depends on many factors such as; accessory drive shaft ratios, cooling of the pump, and vacuum system maintenanace. Rapco, Inc. has developed a way to easily determine if a pump has reached its useful life span and should be replaced or continue in service. The SMART Stick is a dip stick, go-no go, gauge that is included with all new 200 and 400 series vacuum pumps. Rapco’s inspection port is conveniently located at the top of the pump for easy access. In most installations there is no need to remove the pump for inspection. First pump inspection is due after 500 hours of operation, and at each annual thereafter. The simple inspection procedure is as follows: Before returning to service, be sure to clean and inspect the balance of the system. Replace the central air filter and the regulator filter. For additional information, please call 1-800-527-2726 or visit www.rapco-rfs.com. 3. Remove the collar that is attached to the handle of the SMART Stick and place on the shaft near the end away from the handle. Place the Stick into the inspection port. A. If the line on the Stick is not visible, the sleeve is installed incorrectly. Realign the vane slot with the inspection port and re-insert. 4. Reinstall socket cap screw, ensuring that the lock washer is in place, and torque to 14 inch-pounds. B. If the line is visible on the Stick, and the sleeve is not touching the collar, the carbon vanes have additional life. (If the pump is removed from the aircraft, simply use the drive to manually move the pump) Proper installs STICK S.M.A.R.T.
