CESSNA 180H Model Guide
CESSNA 180H · Model Guide
Overview
The CESSNA 180H is a single-engine piston Cessna 180 variant. The documents supplied cover two things: float operation with Aerocet 3500/3500L floats under a supplemental flight manual, and a Cleveland wheel and brake conversion kit. The 180 family is listed at up to 5 passengers, up to 141 kt cruise and up to 890 nm range. These are family maxima, not 180H figures.
- Floatplane limits (Aerocet 3500/3500L): 3190 lb maximum ramp, takeoff and landing weight, normal category only.
- Float installations: pump both floats before every flight, because water in them can shift the CG.
- Cleveland brake and wheel kit 199-60 lists the 180H as eligible under STC SA62GL.
- Float baggage is limited to 100 lb in each float; check the CG whenever you load the airplane.

What is the maximum weight of the CESSNA 180H on Aerocet floats?
With Aerocet 3500 or 3500L floats, the CESSNA 180H is limited to 3190 lb for ramp, takeoff and landing. It is operated in the normal category only. Each float compartment holds up to 100 lb of baggage.
What speed limits apply to the CESSNA 180H floatplane?
On Aerocet floats, the CESSNA 180H has these limits: Vne 143 KIAS, Vno 113 KIAS, maneuvering speed 113 KIAS and flap speed 96 KIAS. The airspeed indicator redline is at 164 MPH.
Can the CESSNA 180H use Cleveland wheels and brakes?
Yes. The CESSNA 180H is on the applicability list for Cleveland conversion kit 199-60 under STC SA62GL. Installation needs separately sourced fittings, bolts and cotter pins, and the weight and balance records must be updated.
What should I check before flying a CESSNA 180H floatplane?
Inspect the floats and attachments for dents, cracks and punctures. Pump out both floats before every flight and look into any excess water as a possible leak. Also confirm that the CG is within limits for your load.

Float operation (Aerocet 3500/3500L)
The supplement applies to 180G and 180H airplanes with the Kenmore Air Harbor STC and Aerocet floats. It must be carried in the airplane. Stall speed at 3190 lb is 57.9 KCAS flaps up and 53.4 KCAS flaps down, and altitude loss in stall recovery may reach 200 feet. Takeoff uses 20 degrees of flaps, water rudders up and the wheel held far aft at first.
Weight and balance on floats
Maximum ramp, takeoff and landing weight is 3190 lb. The CG range is +40.0 to +45.0 inches aft of datum at 3190 lb, and +36.0 to +45.0 inches at 2400 lb or less, with a straight-line variation between the two points. The owner and pilot must make sure the airplane is loaded properly. Use the loading chart in the supplement.
Cleveland wheels and brakes upgrade
Kit 199-60 fits the 180H under STC SA62GL. It has two 6.00-6 tube-type magnesium wheels and two two-piston brakes. Added weight is 9.75 lb per gear leg (wheel 6.75 lb, brake 3.00 lb). Brake hydraulic fittings, brake/axle bolts and cotter pins are not in the kit. Update the weight and balance records and file a Form 337 after installation.
Safety notes
- Water rudders must be up for takeoff and landing, and down only for water taxiing. Check the freedom of movement and security of the water rudders before starting the engine.
- After a float damage flood, shift weight (people and baggage) away from the damaged side to balance the airplane over the buoyant compartments.
- Brake lining needs conditioning after new linings are installed. Light brake use can wear off the glaze and reduce braking performance.
