STC SA234CH HC-SL-30-313 Page 1 of 4 Mar 11/11 1. Planning Information A. Effectivity (1) Hartzell PHC-J3YF-2UF/FC7663DB-2R( ) propellers installed on Cessna 310( ) under Hartzell Propeller Inc. STC SA234CH are affected by this Service Letter. (2) Hartzell PHC-C3YF-2UF/FC7663DB-2R( ) propellers installed on Cessna 310(I,P,Q,R), or T310(P,Q,R) under Hartzell Propeller Inc. STC SA234CH are affected by this Service Letter. B. Reason (1) Hartzell Propeller Inc. has received reports from the field of de-ice boot leadwires coming loose from the blade shank. The leadwires are bonded to the blade shank with adhesive. (a) Refer to Hartzell Propeller Electrical De-ice Boot Removal and Installation Manual 182 (61-12-82) for repair procedures for loose lead wires. (2) This Service Letter introduces installation of de-ice boot P/N 4H1601-14 on the affected installation. The P/N 4H1601-14 de-ice boot has a bent lead strap to cover the leadwires. Refer to Figure 1. (3) The bent lead strap is secured to the blade and prevents the leadwires from coming loose. (4) Hartzell Propeller Inc. has obtained FAA approval for installation of de-ice boots on Hartzell propellers. (5) Regulatory action is not expected. C. Description (1) This Service Letter permits installation of P/N 4H1601-14 de-ice boots and the P/N 4H1601-10 or 7931-4E1601-10 de-ice boots on the same propeller assembly. NOTE: Refer to the approved aircraft installation data to determine installation eligibility. Hartzell Service Letters HC-SL-30-260 and HC-SL-30-279 and Hartzell Application Guide 159 are FAA accepted sources for this information. (2) Propeller assemblies shipped from Hartzell Propeller Inc. will have the P/N 4H1601-14 de-ice boots installed. © 2011 - Hartzell Propeller Inc. - All rights reserved HARTZELL PROPELLER INC. Compliance (1) If the de-ice boot replacement is required, replace the de-ice boot with P/N 4H1601-14, 4H1601-10, or 7931-4E1601-10 de-ice boots in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions in this Service Letter. (a) De-ice boots P/N 4H1601-14, 4H1601-10, or 7931-4E1601-10 may be used. Boots with different part numbers may be intermixed on a propeller assembly. (a) Boots with different part numbers may be intermixed on a propeller assembly. (b) If boots from different manufacturers or different dash numbers are intermixed on a propeller assembly, static and/or dynamic balancing of the assembly may be required. (c) Compliance with Hartzell Propeller Electrical De-ice Boot Removal and Installation Manual 182 (61-12-82) is required when a P/N 4H1601-10 or a 7931-4E1601-10 de-ice boot is installed. B. Instructions For De-Ice Boot Inspection (1) Hartzell Propeller Electrical De-ice Boot Removal and Installation Manual 182 (61-12-82) provides instructions for continued airworthiness for de-ice boot. NOTE: Hartzell de-ice manuals are available on the Hartzell website, www.hartzellprop.com.
