Cargo Hook Description Th e cargo hook provides a means of tra nsport- ing ext e rn al ca r go . The cargo hook installation consists of a cargo hook assembly, elect ri cal hook release equipment and backup eme i· gen- cy manual release equipment. The cargo hook assem bl y is externally at tached to the center beam of the helicopter at Station 99.325. Thecargo hook operational ratin g (external load limit) is 2000 pound s. Th e cargo hook and sw iv el assembly are mounted on t he helicopter center b ea m by four bolts at Station 99.325. The swivel assembly allows the cargo hook to swin g in any direction t hrou gh a 30- degr ee arc. 2. Cargo Hook Operation The cargo hook is normally operat ed electrical- ly by pre ss ing the CARGO HOOK switch on the pilot's cy clic stick grip (Ref. Figure 40 3). Actuat ion of the CARGO HOOK swi tch energizes a solenoid in the cargo hook. The maximu m el ectr ical current r equired to operate the car go hook solenoid is 14 amperes at 28 Vdc. however, the solenoid is designed to operate with vol tage as low as 23 Vdc. Actua- t i on of th e car go h oo k solenoid rel eases the hook (load b ea m). In th e eve nt of an elect ri cal ma lfunction, th e hook can be rel eased (o p ened) by pulling a manual r el ease cable l ever attac h ed to th e pilot's cyclic stick (Ref. Fi gu re 40 1 ). Th e manual release cable rel eases (opens) th e car go hook in the sa me ma nn er as t he electri- cally operated solenoid. Th e hook can be rel ease d for testin g or by cargo pe rsonn el by turning (clockwise) a ca r go hook rel ease knob loca ted on the l eft side of the hook body. R egar dless of the m et hod u sed to release th e hook, the hook will return to the closed (r e tract ed) position. 3. Cargo Hook Fault Isolati on (Ref. Table 101) Cargo hook system malfunc- tions might be caused by any one of seve ral general conditions which are eas ily corrected. Before st arting sp ecific troubleshoot in g procedures, make the following checks and tak e indicated action for troubleshoot ing pro cedur es. (1 ). R efer to applicable wir in g diagram and check fo r loose or damaged wires and / or termin als and connectors; reco nn ect or replac e as required. (2) .
