Page 1 of 3 MANDATORY SERVICE BULLETIN Z 142C/17a Z 242L/37a – Rev. 1 “SAFETY RELATED” Engineering Aspects are Czech CAA Approved 1. DATE: October 31, 2000 2. EFFECTIVITY: All Z 142 C airplanes up to and including serial number 0560. Z 242 L S/A up to 0656 incl. in case when the Mandatory Service Bulletin Z 242L/27a-Rev. 1 was not performed. 3. REASON: Intensity of real acrobatic operation of Z 142 C and Z 242 L airplanes can exceed limits of CAA-FAA load spectra, for which the airplanes were designed. Taking into account the reality of acrobatic operation were established new limits for acrobatic operation of above listed airplanes. 4. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 4.1. Until the active airplane life monitoring system, utilizing AMU1 recording accelerometer system is not used, is the safe fatigue life time of airframe limited to 190 flight hours for operation in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories, by retaining of 3500 flight hours of total technical life. After the airframe safe fatigue life time of 190 flight hours of airframe operation in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories has been achieved, the airplane may be operated only in NORMAL category. Note: MORAVAN-AEROPLANES a.s. is preparing fatigue test of Z 142 C and Z 242 L airplane wings with the objective to demonstrate higher safe fatigue life time over 190 flight hours established now for operation in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories, by retaining of 3500 flight hours of total technical life. And this even without the utilization of active system of life monitoring. MANDATORY SERVICE BULLETIN Z 142C/17a Z 242L/37a – Rev. 1 Page 2 of 3 4.2 Operate airplanes, which reached in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories more than 190 flight hours, only in NORMAL category and place an order for wing root reconstruction with the manufacturing company MORAVAN- AEROPLANES a.s.. according to the reached number of acrobatic flight hours. Accomplish the reconstruction: a) Up to 240 flight hours reached in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories at next “C” inspection, not later than by December 31, 2004. b) Up to 290 flight hours reached in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories at next “B” inspection, not later than by December 31, 2002. c) Over 290 flight hours (or when it is impossible to prove the kind of operation) in ACROBATIC and UTILITY categories at next “A” inspection, not later than by December 31, 2000. After the wing root section reconstruction has been accomplished, the airplanes can be further operated in NORMAL category up to exhausting of total technical airframe life of 3500 flight hours. Note: The operator is obliged to record information about acrobatic flight into the airplane logbook. Under acrobatic flight is understood a flight, since the instant of takeoff till landing, in course of which are performed acrobatic maneuvers permitted by airplane flight manual in ACROBATIC (A) and UTILITY (U) categories. Acrobatic flights have to be marked in airplane logbook by a letter A. 4.3 Cancel Mandatory Bulletins: Z 42/36, Z 142/30, Z 242/2, Z 142C/1 Z 42/44a, Z 142/41a, Z 142C/14a, Z 242L/33a Z 242L/27a Z 242L/28a 4.4. Pertinent revision of airplane manuals: • Z 142 C Maintenance Manual –Vol.I. (for airplanes up to and including S/N 0560) • Z 242 L Maintenance Manual –Vol.I. Document No. 003.022.1 5. TIME OF COMPLIANCE: Immediately after receipt of this Bulletin. 6. ACOMPLISHED BY: User (replacement of sheets in Maintenance Manuals). 7. COSTS COVERED BY: User.
