WACO YMF-5 SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER NUMBER: WA-SIL001 Issued: 18 Jan 2021 Revised: none SUBJECT: INTERCHANGEABILITY OF CERTAIN JACOBS ENGINE MODELS 18 Jan 2021 SERVICE INFORMATION LETTER: WA-SIL001 Revision NR Page 1 of 1 EFFECTIVITY: Waco YMF-5 aircraft serial numbers F5C040 thru F5C121 PURPOSE: This service information letter provides instructions for owners and operators to change the engine model of their YMF-5C aircraft. REFERENCE: TDCS No. ATC542 DISCUSSION: Owners and operators of YMF-5C aircraft have expressed interest in changing from the originally installed Jacobs R-755B2 or B2M engine model to the R-755A2 or A2M model. The aircraft listed in the effectivity field of this SIL are eligible to change the engine model. To be in compliance with TCDS ATC542, when installing an R-755A2 or A2M engine on a YMF WACO F5C delivered from the factory equipped with an R-755B2 or B2M engine a replacement Identification (Data) plate having a new serial number containing the number “-8-“ is required. Additionally, when equipping a YMF-5C with an R-755A2 or A2M engine, the propeller must be one of the approved models listed in the TCDS eligible for the engine model. ACTION: Instructions for the removal and installation of the subject engines are contained in WACO Classic Aircraft Maintenance Manual Part Number YMFAMM-1, Section 7. Interested owners and operators should contact WACO Aircraft Corporation about obtaining a new data plate (part number 50177) with a new aircraft serial number containing “-8-”.
