6310.7C 1/22/90 AIRPORT SURVEILLANCE RADAR (ASR-8) STEEL TOWER DRAWINGS SUBJ: 1. PURPOSE. This order announces the issuance of the drawin~ * listed in appendix 1 . Drawing D-6083-6 is revised and dated 11/9/89.
* 2. DISTRIBUTION. This order is distributed to division level in the Program Engineering, Advanced System Acquisition, and Systems Maintenance Services in Washington headquarters; to branch level in the regional Airway Facilities divisions; and the FAA Depot and Facility Support Division at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center; and to the Director level at the FAA Technical Center.
* 3. CANCELLATION. Order 631 0. 7B, Airport Surveillance Radar ( ASR 8) Steel Tower Drawings, dated 6/8/89, is canceled. * 4 . BACKGROUND .
a. The tower design has been revised to conform with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards.
The height of the platform guard rails is increased 6 inches and kick plates are added. The height of the stair handrail is lowered 2 inches.
b. The agency recognizes these devisions from the OSHA Standards in issuing Order 3900.32A, Agency Compliance With Occu~:-~..:ional Safety and Health Administration Standards: Program Engineering and Maintenance Service National Abatement Plan. The non-standard conditions are listed as deminimuses. A deminimus is defined as a condition that is in voilation of an OSHA standard but presents no apparent hazard to employees' safety or health. No retrofit corrective action is required for a deminimus violation, and no funding is provided.
c. Other minor revisions include changing the size of down

conductor and increasing the height of the lightning air terminals to conform to Drawing D-6075-153, Lightning Protection of ASR Radar Tower; and increasing the floor grating area on the mezzanine level to provide access to the ASR-9 radar antenna panel.
5. APPLICATION. These drawings shall be used for the fabrication and construction of all ASR-8 antenna towers. The drawings will be added to the specification currency list for procurement in the Air Traffic Control and Navigation System. Inquiries or comments regarding these drawings should be directed to the Manager, Facilities Integration Division, APS-100.

No deviation from the standard i; authorized without prior approval of the Director, Program Engineering Service. Regional site adaptation to accommodate terrain or soil conditions is authorized without further clearance.
Dimensional errors, discrepancies, or suggestions for modification or additional details should be brought to the attention of the Manager, Facilities Integration Division, APS-100.
7 . CORRECTIONS TO STANDARPS. Corrections may be made by the Director, Program Engineering Service, without regional or interservice coordination. These may include misspelling, corrections of dimensional errors, and modification, addition, or deletion of minor details.
*8. DISTRIBUTION OF DRAWINGS. A reproducible copy of D-6083-6 is being forwarded to each region (except AEU), Attention: Airway Facilities Division; and the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, Attention: Facility Support Division.
