Overview

This document is a supplement to the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) for various models of the Hawker Beechcraft Baron, specifically including the 58TC model. It is intended for pilots and operators who have equipped their aircraft with D’Shannon Products, LTD Vortex Generators, which are designed to enhance stall characteristics and improve safety margins during flight. The supplement provides critical information regarding the vortex generator system, including limitations, performance enhancements, and operational procedures. It emphasizes that pilots should continue to reference the original POH for standard limitations and performance data, while also adhering to the specific guidelines outlined in this supplement.

  • The D’Shannon VG system consists of 111 vortex generators, with 107 on the 58TC model.
  • Flight is prohibited with fewer than 103 vortex generators installed.
  • The VG system improves stall characteristics and reduces stall and Vmca speeds.
  • Pilots must reference the original POH for standard performance specifications.
  • Emergency and normal procedures remain unchanged from the basic flight manual.

General

The D’Shannon Products, LTD Vortex Generator (VG) system consists of 111 vortex generators installed on the wings and vertical stabilizer of the aircraft. For the 58TC model, there are 107 vortex generators. The primary purpose of this system is to improve stall characteristics and reduce stall and Vmca speeds by controlling the airflow over the wings and stabilizer. Pilots are advised to reference the original performance specifications in the POH to maintain safety margins.

Limitations

The minimum requirement for the vortex generator system is 103 vortex generators. Flight operations are prohibited if the number of installed vortex generators falls below this minimum threshold.

Performance

The installation of vortex generators on the upper surface of the wings has been shown to effectively reduce stall and Vmca speeds. Pilots should continue to use the performance data from the original AFM/POH to ensure an increased margin of safety during flight.

Emergency Procedures

There are no changes to the emergency procedures outlined in the basic flight manual.

Normal Procedures

Normal operating procedures remain unchanged from those specified in the basic flight manual.

Weight and Balance / Equipment List

There are no changes to the weight and balance or equipment list from the basic flight manual.

Systems Description

The systems description section remains unchanged from the basic flight manual.

Handling, Servicing, and Maintenance

There are no changes to the handling, servicing, and maintenance procedures from the basic flight manual.

Safety notes

  • Ensure that at least 103 vortex generators are installed before flight.
