Please read the instructions with the kit completely before referring to this example. The kit instructions call for connecting to the battery relay and an airframe ground, instead of directly to the battery. In the A36 the battery box and all related electrical power are located on the RH firewall. The A36 also has easy access to the engine compartment so a mounting of the charger harness inside the cowling works well. The exact configuration of your aircraft may vary from this example and require variations from these instructions. 1) With the Battery Master switch OFF, use a voltmeter to identify the hot side of the row of fuses. There should be 24+ volts directly from the battery, even with the fuse removed. One of these screw terminals is a convenient place to attach the positive lead for the harness. 2) Remove the top cover from the battery box and disconnect the battery cables during the remainder of the installation. Battery Box Fuse Block Plug Mounting Surface 3) Assemble the fuse holder and use as the positive lead for the SB50 plug. Torch-solder the fuse holder lead to one of the SB50 lugs. Insert lug into the positive side of the plug. 4) Use the black wire in the kit for the airframe ground lead. Torch-solder to the remaining lug and insert into the negative side of the plug. 5) Attach the elastomeric dust cover to the red SB50 plug and position it on the metal shield over the starter relay. Determine a position that does not interfere with the cowling door, and mark the two mounting holes for drilling. 6) Provide clearance for the dust cover under the plug by using a 0.20” spacer or a stack of washers. 7) Mount the SB50 plug assembly to the shield with #6 screws and stop nuts. Use a stack of washers or a 0.20” spacer under the plug to provide adequate clearance for the dust cover. 8) Route the positive lead from the plug to one of the fuse holder screw terminals, trim to length, and use small ring terminal to attach. 9) Route the negative lead from the plug to an airframe ground, trim to length, and use ring terminal to attach. The bolt holding the clamped capacitor was used for this installation. 10) Label or placard the plug or dust cover “MAINTENANCE CHARGER”. Charger plug, fuse holder, and leads attached to the fuse block and airframe ground. Ready to use. 11) Reattach battery cables and test for proper voltage and polarity at the SB50 plug with aircraft power OFF. 12) Attach the adapter harness to the BatteryMINDer. Connect charger to the aircraft plug. Observe correct polarity and battery condition on the BatteryMINDer. Connect charger power cord to AC and verify normal operating indications on the BatteryMINDer. 13) Re-install battery box cover and perform functional test of aircraft electrical system. 14) Make appropriate entry in airframe maintenance logbook to document installation as minor alteration and return to service.
