The various groups are broken down into major systems such as Air Conditioning, Electrical Power, Land- ing Gear, etc. The systems are arranged more or less alphabetically rather than by precedence or importance. They are assigned a number, which becomes the first element of a standardized numbering system. Thus, the element 11 28 11 of the number 28-00-00 refers to the chapter 11 Fuel 11 • Everything concerning the fue 1 system will be covered in this chapter. Sub-Section - The major systems of an airplane are broken down into sub-sections, and are identified by the second element of the standardized num- bering system. The number 11 40 11 of 28-40-00 identifies the indicating portion of the fuel system. Unit - The individual units within a sub-section may be identified by the third element of the standard numbering system, such as 28-40-01. The number 11 01 11 is assigned by the manufacturer and may, or may not, be -used and will vary in usage. APPLICATION Any publication conforming to GAMA or ATA 100 format utilizes the same basic num- bering system, even though some chapters may be omitted because they are not applicable to that airplane or publica- tion. Thus, whether the publication is a Maintenance Manual, a Parts Catalog, or a Wiring Diagram Manual, a person requiring information concerning the fuel storage or fuel indicating portion of the fuel system would refer to Chapter 28, FUEL. The List of Pages and Table of Contents located at the beginning of the chapter provides a list of sub-sections and units covered within the chapter.
