Before Engine Start

This section outlines the necessary checks and adjustments before starting the engine, including ensuring seats and seat belts are adjusted and locked, checking the fuel shutoff valve, and confirming that electrical equipment is off.

Engine Start

The engine start checklist includes setting the brakes, adjusting the mixture to rich, ensuring the propeller area is clear, and following a sequence of steps to start the engine while monitoring oil pressure and ammeter readings.

Before Takeoff

Prior to takeoff, pilots must ensure that flight controls are free and correct, instruments are set, and perform a magneto check. The checklist also includes setting the throttle to 2200 RPM and checking various engine instruments.

Enroute Climb and Cruise

During the climb, the recommended airspeed is 85 KTS with the throttle full forward. In cruise, power settings are adjusted as required, and the mixture should be leaned.

Before Landing and Shutdown

Before landing, pilots are reminded to adjust seats and harnesses, set the mixture to rich, and turn on the fuel boost pump. The shutdown procedure includes turning off the avionics master and securing the aircraft.

Safety notes

  • Ensure the propeller area is clear before starting the engine.
  • Monitor oil pressure and ammeter readings during engine start.
